The position lies within the Cash Equities in Market Operations. The job holder is responsible to support middle office activities as the primary liaison with internal and external clients. They maintain constant communication with the business and various stakeholders to ensure all market deliverables are met.
This role includes managing primary objective of driving operational excellence across our business globally. Achieving this through the consolidation, simplification and continuous improvement of the process, simultaneously takes responsibility for managing operational, location and processing risk.
Ensure compliance of internal guidelines, external regulations and are constantly reviewed and enhanced to continually improve the support functions offered to the operational processes and the business.
We are seeking a credible and dynamic individual for the Manager Operations (specialising in Middle Office Control) role. There is no direct report for this role.
The Opportunity:
The Trade Control Manager will support the Sector, Program Trading and Sales desks for the Cash Equities business.
The role holder covers day to day responsibilities as the escalation point of contact for the trading desk, monitoring exceptions in trade life cycle, break resolution and liaison with internal departments (client service, front / middle office, settlements, finance etc.).
As a result, you support the equity franchise with their institutional clients on a daily basis and reduce risk and escalate when necessary.
What you’ll do:
- Ensure the communications are managed with Internal parties including Front Office, Finance, Settlements, Static Data for Equity trades
- Ensures all client trades allocation are managed on Trade Date.
- Ensures the balancing of all domestic and foreign equity trading positions are performed.
- Ensure the intersystem Front office and back office reconciliations, internal break capture processes, and street-side external execution recons on the various exchanges are being done daily.
- Maintains the proper escalation to management or trading desk to protect the firm against risk exposure.
- Maintain and update procedures as necessary
- Ability to apply judgment to operational situations in a fast paced environment to drive progress
- Identify potential financial risk to the bank and ensure proper resolution is achieved within the bank’s guidelines
- Ensure adequate support for effective management of KRIs, to minimise risk e.g. Nostro/Stock/inter-system breaks
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed in the role:
- Sound understanding and formal qualification of basic Operations Accounting principles
- Able to demonstrate the mind set and maturity to operate in a fast paced environment
- Awareness and appreciation to operations risk and control and exception management
- Ability to implement initiatives and work as part of a team
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with clients/stakeholders
- Attention to detail and a hands on approach to identify opportunities of process improvement
- Follow formal escalation framework across all aspects of Operations i.e. operational and systemic related risks
- Strong awareness and appreciation to operations risk and control and exception management
- Strong communication skills with the ability to manage local and international relationships across the org.
What additional skills will be good to have?
- 3-5 years of investment banking experience would be recommended
- Flexibility to work in required HK/UK hours.
- A degree in Business or Finance would be preferred
- Ability to multi-task and support multiple stakeholders
- Able to work in a demanding and time sensitive environment
- Hands on experience of operations processing is an advantage
- Familiar working knowledge of associated technology
