MSS Operations NFR team is an internal risk and control management function primarily responsible for ensuring that risks within MSS Operations are managed within risk appetite. It is a global, and cross asset-class, function that works closely with Control Owners in ensuring that key controls are adequate in mitigating our material risks. The function is broadly responsible for evaluating risks, facilitating policy and Risk and Control governance, monitoring, reviewing, and testing both the design and operation of key controls, driving consistency of the internal control framework across locations where there is a Markets and Securities Services (MSS) presence, ensuring adherence to risk & control policies, reinforcing control culture and directing control awareness activities, and ensuring that Operations management are accountable for their risks and taking action on a timely basis to remediate.


The Opportunity:
  • The role functionally reports into NFR Controls Change and will also support Data Insights. The role holder is an Individual Contributor and will be accountable for supporting the delivery of Risk Data Analysis, Controls Change, Event Escalation and Data Leakage Prevention tooling, and Data Management activities including:
  • Support the wider NFR Strategy through data insights and data driven decision making processes
  • Prepare and challenge risk data insight including the design/fundamental of risk data capture
  • Support thematic reviews that require data insights and are supplied to governance forums, audit and relevant MSS Ops activities
  • Support the innovation agenda on Risk and Control reporting and foster a data driven decision making mindset in Non-Financial Risk Management
  • Execute a data driven culture across MSS Operations and the Non-Financial Risk teams
  • Support the implementation of the Controls Change book of work
  • Lead the implementation of the Global Event Management Escalation tooling platform within MSS
  • Continuous improvement of the Data Leakage Prevention tooling capabilities
  • Management of senior stakeholders (GCB2 and GCB3) in presenting output and supporting decision making
  • Being connected globally across all lines of defense to ensure appropriate management of non-financial risks
What you’ll do:

Impact on the Business/Function
  • Manage and Govern utilization of core Non-Financial Risk data to support MSS Risk Management framework.
  • Perform analysis of data and extract themes that can be written up for senior management
  • Engage on discussions in relation to AI adoption that enables advancement in data analysis
  • Analyze, organize and coordinate relevant observations on data quality
  • Lead a data driven culture in Non-Financial Risk Management.
  • Consolidate, analyze and prioritize all submitted controls change initiatives and ensure timely implementation and successful delivery
  • Coordinate with IT, Change, Operations and the wider Operations NFR teams to ensure smooth deployment
  • In-Depth understanding of the MSS event escalation tooling requirements. Work with the Global Escalation Tooling program team to ensure successful implementation.
  • Use a data driven approach to prevent data leakage. Work with IT to continuously improve the Data Leakage Prevention tooling capabilities.
  • Manage senior stakeholders across MSS Operations to ensure NFR activities are appropriately received.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed in the role:
  • A degree in banking / financial / management / business administration / accounting exposure
  • Strong knowledge of MSS Operations processes and trade lifecycle
  • Strong understanding of Data Management and Data Tools.
  • Risk professional with at least 10 years’ combined experience in Banking Operations/Back Office Operations, Global Markets business (FX, Fixed Income and Equities), Operational Risk, Compliance or Data Analytics.
  • People management experience and ability to manage a high performing team


What additional skills will be good to have?
  • Subject matter expert in Non-Financial Risk
  • Analytical mind with mature judgment and decision making skills to identify exceptions in process handling.
  • Experience in Data Management and Data Science.
  • Detailed knowledge of MSS Operations and the product specific trade lifecycle.
  • Understanding of the HSBC Change Framework
  • Credible performer on global stage
  • Understanding of the key control points and risk inherent in the trade lifecycle
  • Organised, adaptable and self-driven to achieve collective information both formally and informally from Subject Matter Experts.
  • Excellent relationship builder with strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and exacting standards.
  • Ability to present information and recommendations to senior stakeholders
