The opportunity:

The Governance and Frameworks team is responsible for driving consistency and quality across the Global Insurance Finance function, covering three key areas: Technical Governance and Frameworks (including data and models), Corporate Governance, and Enterprise-wide Finance Frameworks. 

The role holder would focus on driving Technical Governance and Frameworks initiatives, including:

  • Designing, implementing, and continuously enhancing technical frameworks that oversee and govern Global Insurance Finance data and models. This includes:
  • A data and systems framework, guiding how we store, manipulate, manage, and use Global Insurance Finance data across core processes, including how we adhere to relevant data quality standards and requirements
  • A model implementation framework, guiding how we implement and execute models, including coding standards
  • A model governance framework, overseeing how we record, validate, monitor, and calibrate our models, including relevant policies and standards

Providing oversight over the delivery of data and model implementation enhancements, ensuring requirements / standards are adhered to, optimal / automated solutions are implemented, and appropriate testing is conducted

Acting as a 1LoD review and challenge of framework implementation and relevant output to ensure consistency and quality across the function.

Monitoring and, where required, updating technical data and model frameworks on an ongoing basis for the latest developments.

Providing oversight over the delivery of MRM enhancements to become compliant with SS1/23 requirements

Principal Responsibilities :

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining broader Insurance Finance frameworks to guide and drive core Finance processes e.g. reinsurance, capital optimisation, etc.
  • Providing thorough technical R&C across GI Finance outputs and materials (e.g. forecasts, actuals, scenario analysis, risk appetite calibrations, disclosures, etc.).
  • Producing Global-level Insurance Governance materials on business-critical topics (e.g., GAC, GRC)
  • Conducting ad-hoc, independent investigations into emerging / hot topics.
  • Engaging in frequent interaction with wider teams across Insurance (Business, Risk, Strategy, Capital, etc.) and the Bank.
  • Nurturing strong internal and external networks to stay abreast of sector developments, trends and leading practices to continuously enhance GI Finance Governance and frameworks, and operations of the team.

The ideal candidate will have background in financial services and technical experience in implementing quality data and modelling solutions. They will also have a proven track record of driving excellence, delivering high quality output, and promoting a culture of ‘challenge’, continuous learning, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Ability to effectively influence key stakeholders and establish credibility with senior management through constructive challenging and substantiating views with solid evidence / rationale.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to work effectively across geographies and matrix reporting lines.
  • Proficiency in advanced programming languages (particularly python).
  • Knowledge of relevant data management / platform / system / architecture solutions, particularly within HSBC, would be a strong advantage.

Others

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science / Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in finance, with a strong background in data, model development, and / or model risk management, preferably in the life insurance or banking industries.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality output with buy-in from key stakeholders.
  • Experience working with globally dispersed teams and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of Insurance, products, IFRS17, and key frameworks (e.g., Risk-Based Capital) is valued.
  • Knowledge and experience with HSBC data and systems would be a strong advantage.
  • Proficiency in advanced programming languages (particularly python) and knowledge of relevant data management / platform / system / architecture solutions would be a strong advantage.
