Job description

Major Incident Management is a key regulatory requirement across markets. 

In this role you will lead Major Incident Management Strategy and Major Incident Programme Control design, delivery and assurance to ensure continuous improvement. You will be responsible for the Group MIG programme activities and lead the support for the Group MIG response.

This is a 6-month Short Term Assignment (maternity cover). 

This role is simultaneously advertised in UAE, UK and India, but the number of positions remain as 1. Applicants already based in the UAE , will be considered for the UAE posting. 

This role reports in to the Global Head of BCIM and the role holder will be functional line manager to two GCB4 employees. 

In this role you will be responsible for: 

Global Oversight

  • Oversee Group-wide Major Incident Management strategy and coordinate related projects to mature the incident management process, controls and supporting technology platforms. Work with key stakeholders from the Global Businesses and Infrastructure such as Technology, Regulatory Affairs, Real Estate Services, Communications, People, etc. to ensure a holistic approach. 
  • Driving change in incident management strategy to support the Bank wide operational resilience programme and Business Service Owner community. 
  • Leading incident management planning, governance, and oversight across all regions and businesses, ensuring consistency while enabling local adaptability.
  • Driving innovation in incident management practices, introducing new technologies to enhance incident monitoring, communication, and response support, leveraging real-time data and analytics.
  • Produce and deliver globally applicable annual Major Incident Group (MIG) Refresher Training.
  • Lead and deliver MIG member training for new Group MIG members.
  • Provide Secretariat support to the Global MIG, serve as the primary coordination point during global incidents, and oversee the delivery of Group MIG post incident reviews.
  • Ensure succession planning is in place for all areas of responsibility.

     

     

    Control / Procedure Management

     

     

  • Accountable for ensuring the Global Major Incident Management Operating Instructions are fit for purpose, aligned with requirements as set out by the 2L and 3L, and consider external best practice.
  • Accountable for ensuring MIM control design and guidance is fit for purpose, and aligned with requirements as set out by the 2L and 3L.
  • Accountable for ensuring MIM technology strategy is fit for purpose, and aligned with requirements from the businesses and functions and 2/3L. 

     

     

    Governance 

  • Ensure MIM controls owned by the markets and operating activities owned by the regions and markets are in line with policy and are operating effectively.
  • Oversee MIM control and operating activities monitoring and reporting as required for governance submissions. Ensure issues are logged in the relevant system of record and per procedure. 
  • Operate the Group MIM forum to oversee group wide MIG activities, learning from incidents and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct the MIG Effectiveness Assessment per procedures and apply learnings globally.
  • Support the Group Businesses and Functions to determine the appropriate incident response structure, documentation and activities fit for their needs.
  • Provide advice and guidance to manage compliance with MIM Operating Instructions. 

    Incident Response

     

  • Accountable for ensuring the Global MIG meets the minimum standards as set out in the Global Major Incident Management Operating Instructions. Review the Global Major Incident Group (MIG) plan, ensure MIG member awareness training and MIG invocation tests are complete and conduct the annual Global MIG exercise.
  • Accountable for ensuring Business and Functional Stakeholders understand their incident role and responsibilities.
  • Act as an escalation path across various incident response groups across the Group and advise and guide the MIG Chair on Global MIG invocation.
  • Facilitate the invocation of the Global MIG and perform the MIG Secretariat role, providing assistance to the Chair as required.
  • Ensure MIG incident logs are maintained and that MIG status update e-mails are authored, approved and sent following each meeting
  • Ensure Everbridge notifications are sent and report on the results/response as directed by the MIG Chair
  • Ensure a Post Incident Report is completed in line with policy and share the issues identified for continuous improvement and read-across.

    Management
  • Build and motivate a capable, supportive, engaged and challenged MIM capability in the Group and regions/businesses.
  • Responsible for objective setting, performance management and assisting with development for all direct reports.
  • Help steer team members, where required, to develop fully into their role, providing coaching and guidance as required.
  • Create a team culture where openness and ideas are welcome and encouraged
  • Contribute to local compensation and grade review process
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders supporting incident response. 
Requirements

In order to apply for this role you will have the following Certifications, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, risk management, or related field.
  • Significant incident management knowledge, understanding and practical experience in maintaining a response capability and in using this capability to respond to major incidents
  • Knowledge of the industry standards and best practices of incident and business continuity management, such as ISO 22361, ISO 22301, NIST SP 800-34 or NIST SP 800-61.
  • Ability to build relations with senior management and positively influence outcomes for BCIM.
  • Ability to continually assess and prioritize new and existing work demands and to work smart with limited resources to maximize output.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Bank structure, its processes and dependencies.
  • Significant awareness of local regulations impacting BCIM and an effective and pragmatic response to address the resulting control requirements.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate and negotiate with all levels of management.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and innovative thinker.
  • Exceptional organisation and planning skill.
  • Relevant industry qualifications and membership relevant professional bodies.
  • Graduation/Bachelors Degree is required to secure a UAE work permit.
