We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Head of Embedded Finance Business  - Asia  - Hong Kong.

Job Summary:

GTS provides solutions to HSBC’s customers in Corporate and Institutional Banking as well as local commercial banking customers in UK and Hong Kong to help them optimise working capital, manage counterparty risk and settle their trade transactions whether they are domestic or international and cover goods or services.

1.    Commercialising HTS to automate and grow Traditional Trade
2.    Investing to build leadership in Structured Trade

These three strategic priorities are underpinned by critical business enablers: a robust people plan, enhanced asset distribution capabilities, and an ambitious data strategy.

Reporting jointly to Chief Product Officer, GTS and Regional Head of ASP, GTS, this role will have accountabilities to grow the GTS’s newly formed Embedded Finance Business Unit in fast changing market, driven by pace of technology change and regulation, to capture revenue opportunities arising from online platforms and marketplaces. This includes directly leading the execution and materialization of the unit from early-stage formation to ongoing monetization and scaling of the business model to deliver optimal enterprise outcomes for the newly formed unit in GTS, and HSBC.

The role holder will be responsible for shaping and executing the strategic vision of the GTS embedded finance unit, ensuring sustainable growth of the business model, and continued operational excellence within this new commercial framework.

We are currently seeking a high-caliber entrepreneurial professional who can formulate and implement business strategies to maximize revenue and customer value at portfolio and individual levels, motivate and lead the teams within the Embedded Finance Unit to meet short- and long-term growth objectives, and champion a test-and-learn culture to drive innovation and tangible business outcomes.  

Principal Responsibilities:

Impact on the Business

•    Work in partnership with the GTS Leadership to set the strategy and targets for Embedded Finance business to support GTS’s priorities. 
•    Leadership and delivery of strategic and operating plans to grow Embedded Finance business. 
•    Lead the product development & business initiatives for creating products and solutions fit for market.
•    Manage direct and indirect costs and budgets to ensure that value is delivered within expenditure limits.
•    Responsible to oversee support functions across operations, finance, risk, regulatory aspects.
•    Ensure healthy growth of revenue and user base through proactive engagement and connectivity with the ecosystem and networks of online platforms/marketplaces to achieve the business unit’s strategy of growing revenues and returns through embedded finance.

Customers / Stakeholders

•    Build and lead the GTS Embedded Finance Unit to support large international platforms/marketplaces and their clients. 
•    Develop, maintain and manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
•    Interact with key regulators, ensuring embedded finance business is understood and positioned in line with regulatory expectations.
•    Establish metrics & ensure effective tracking of competitor offerings.
•    Collaborate with other fintech’s and industry bodies on industry-wide responses to issues that affect all banks 
•    Keep abreast of changes in the fintech markets and maintain close relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
•    Represent the interest of HSBC CIB and the embedded finance unit to external stakeholders including partners, clients, and regulators to ensure that the quality business meets the group’s standards, safeguards the Bank from potential loss, maintain high level of compliance, and minimize operational risks.

Leadership & Teamwork

•    The Head of Embedded Finance will closely interact with the Board of Express Finance Data Services Ltd and will be a part of the decision-making committee on future growth and development of the organization
•    Lead, motivate and inspire the Embedded Finance Leadership team, supporting the effective management of the business to achieve business objectives 
•    Talent Management and Succession Planning. Build and maintain a talent pool and ensure effective succession for key roles
•    Lead and develop an effective team of highly trained individuals through communication, performance management, development plans and reward and recognition practices
•    Establish cultural and behavioral excellence and develop high engagement across the team
•    Cultivate an environment that supports diversity, the Values and reflects the HSBC & JV brand
•    Motivate and lead the Embedded Finance Unit’s team, providing both strategic and day-to-day direction and guidance across all aspects. Fostering an environment that encourages experimentation, rapid iteration, and data driven decision-making to optimize product, experiences, services, and processes. 

Requirements

•    Strong and proven experience in a senior role with exposure to corporate lending, credit structures, asset distribution, risk assessment, product development and trade finance.
•    A passionate client advocate with deep understanding of online platform/marketplaces and their clients’ needs, with a demonstrable track record in delivering excellent customer experience on a global scale 
•    Strong digital acumen with experience of building a digital business
•    Demonstrates sound commercial judgment and strategic vision
•    Ability to use strong judgmental skills to identify and resolve problems whilst maintaining budgets, time scales and quality of output 
•    Ability to manage and navigate in a complex global matrix environment
•    Strategic thinking and high level of business acumen and commercial awareness 
•    Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills 
•    Proven record of successfully developing and implementing commercial strategies
•    High level of proficiency in financial analysis, risk management with the ability to liaise with key stakeholders
•    Ability to interact and build trust and credibility with relationships at all levels of seniority including internal and external stakeholders, ‘C suite’, owner/proprietor client representatives, regulators and government bodies. Ability to influence without direct control
•    Strong track record of meeting or exceeding short- and long-term growth targets. 
Knowledge / experience of working in the Asia and western markets is favorable due to corridor experience
•    Capacity to think about the wider HSBC Group business – to take a Global view
