Role Purpose

The CIB & HBEU Head of GPS and GTS Risk and Head of HBEU Intl. is a senior leadership focused on SME product risk knowledge for specialized products primarily within Global Trade Solutions (GTS) and Global Payments Solutions (GPS) businesses. The purpose of the role is to ensure that all material risks associated with these business lines are identified, assessed, mitigated, managed and monitored in a timely and robust manner such that all residual risks can be safely and sustainably managed and ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met through the appropriate deployment of available resources (people, systems, capital, liquidity and balance sheet leverage), the amendment of products, services or activities or the build out of new capabilities.   The role will also provide Risk and Compliance entity oversight for HBEU Intl branches and subsidiaries (CIIOM, Bermuda, Israel, South Africa and Swiss branch)

The CIB&HBEU Head of GPS and GTS Risk and Head of HBEU Intl, reports to the CRCO CIB&HBEU and works closely with all of the CIB&HBEU and Global sub-function heads.

Principal Accountabilities 

  • Subject matter expert in commercial and transaction services banking; specific focus on cash management, settlement, clearing as well as trade finance.  Understanding of credit and operational risk processes related to the Trade finance, embedded finance, and GPS products
  • Serve as a risk steward/2nd LOD challenger facing off to Global Trade Solutions (GTS) and Global Payments Solutions (GPS),
  • Coordinate with risk stewards across all disciplines for an end-to-end view of the risks emanating from the specific businesses and specialized products
  • Provide global risk oversight for payments, receivables, liquidity management, digital assets, commercial cards and trade finance business
  • Leading product and issue risk deep dives when required
  • Manage intraday liquidity risks, providing challenge and approvals to intraday clearing excesses, optimize clearing lines based on client usage, participate in portfolio reviews and limit rightsizing, improve efficiency through reviews of internal processes, policies and systems
  • Provide risk inputs and manage New Product analysis and approval responsibilities from risk perspective. Key approver (hold delegated responsibility from the CIB CRCO) related to products within GPS and GTS businesses
  • Identification of new industry trends, risks, and opportunities to support informed risk decision making
  • The role will also serve as a ‘span’ breaker for the CRCO CIB and HBEU and will provide Risk and Compliance Entity Oversight for HBEU Intl branches and subsidiaries (CIIOM, Bermuda, Israel, South Africa and Swiss branch).
Requirements

Experience

Banking Expertise (e.g. Corporate, Institutional, Markets, Wealth): 

  • Extensive experience and deep understanding of the banking industry, including core banking operations, financial products and regulatory environments. Demonstrated ability to bring technical knowledge to bare to support and help grow the business in a progressive but prudent manner.

Industry Expertise:

  • Able to identify new industry trends, risks, and opportunities to support informed risk decision making; Experience in global payments systems, and FMIs.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of commercial and transaction services banking; specific focus on cash management, settlement, clearing as well as trade finance.
  • Understanding of credit and operational risk processes related to the Trade finance, embedded finance, and GPS products.

Technical Breadth & Depth:

  • Accomplished risk executive with experience across enterprise risk domains, including traded and market risk, at a complex banking institution. Intimately familiar with a three lines of defence operating model.

Regulatory Engagement & understanding:

  • Brings first-class knowledge of the global regulatory environment as well as a demonstrable track-record of regulatory relationships and influence. Able to demonstrate strong processes that deliver on business and regulatory expectations/requirements as well as inform the direction of travel for better risk management of the business.
