We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Head of Regional Tax Reporting and HK Tax Compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Regional responsibility for external tax reporting.  Specific activities include managing review/challenge process by Head of Tax – Asia and Middle East, Financial Controller – Asia and Middle East, and also preparing sign-off materials for sharing with Group Tax reporting team 
  • Responsible for legal entity tax reporting and compliance matters for HBAP HK and HASE HK 
  • Key contact with HK IRD on matters relating to in-scope entities but also responsible for operational relationship with IRD across all HK legal entities 
  • Key leadership contact point for Controllership colleagues in Financial Control and colleagues in FinOps to support their reporting of material tax issues arising as part of financial reporting processes 
  • Responsible for driving forward HK Domestic Minimum Tax regime project 
  • Liaison with CIB/IWPB/HK heads of tax globally and in the region on relevant business matters impacting in-scope legal entities 
  • Liaison with country heads of tax on relevant matters impacting in-scope legal entities 
  • Leading collaboration efforts within the broader Controllership function to enhance the control environment of Tax reporting processes together with proactively managing, anticipating and escalating risks and issues 
  • Risk Steward for Employment Tax matters 
  • Key point of contact for other teams requiring tax assistance in relation to in-scope legal entities, including Treasury, Legal etc. 
  • Attendance at governance committees for in-scope legal entities where Tax representation is required, including those of Hang Seng Group where Head of Tax Hang Seng is not sufficiently senior to meet quorum requirements 
  • Accountable to Head of Tax, Asia and Middle East and Group Tax team for appropriate tax reporting review across the region 
  • Escalation point for CFO, Hang Seng Bank for matters relating to entities within the Hang Seng Group companies 
  • Lead a team of experienced tax professionals providing tax compliance and reporting services 
  • Lead and develop an offshore team providing support in the delivery of the key responsibilities, to be done in conjunction with other leaders in the Tax function 
  • Create an integrated team with cross-training and coverage across the different responsibilities, with a view to creating efficiencies in processes
Requirements

Requirements:

  • Qualified professional with extensive experience in tax reporting 
  • Significant experience in HK corporate tax and international tax matters in an in-house environment (including any Big Four experience)
  • Expert in HK corporate tax compliance matters including optimal tax processes 
  • Particular knowledge in relation to new HK Domestic Minimum Tax regime 
  • Understanding of IFRS tax accounting standards, including in relation to IFRIC 23 (Uncertain Tax Positions) 
  • Significant knowledge of common tax concepts as well as international tax issues (in order to be able to exercise review and challenge in relation to positions taken by sites)
  • Highly effective leadership skills. Strong common sense with ability to navigate, drive, influence, communicate and manage business, senior management, other stakeholders and team members is critical 
  • An influential personality capable of participating significantly in internal senior management meetings and external industry forums 
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, time sensitive multi-engagement environment with varying deliverables and changing requirements 
  • Self-starter with excellent analytical, organisational and time management skills 
  • Open to using technology to improve reporting processes and controls and encouraging team members to think about these opportunities 
  • Excellent analytical, research, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills 
  • Given that many HASE governance committees and internal governance processes are conducted in Cantonese, language proficiency in Cantonese is nice to have, to be able to exercise review and challenge in relation to positions taken by sites
