The Opportunity:

  • Monitor and optimise the performance of automated decisioning strategies and credit policies, proactively identifying areas and opportunities within the strategy and policy framework to enhance portfolio performance, customer experience and profitability.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with key stakeholders such as Product Management and Collections, providing risk / reward related analytics and specialist advice to support the management of the Mortgage portfolio.
  • Proactively identify emerging risks, problem areas and opportunities within the WPB credit portfolios ensuring we are proactively managing the portfolio under changing economic circumstances (eg. Stress, CoVID-19).
  • Assist in the stress testing activities of the WPB Credit Portfolio.
  • Assist in the implementation and ongoing enhancement of all HBAU automated credit decisioning systems, models and strategies.
  • Support the Portfolio Risk Analysts to develop their technical skills by sharing best practise techniques.
  • Work closely with ASP WPB RISK in Hong Kong to ensure that regional guidelines and procedures are followed in country and that best practise techniques are introduced where appropriate.
  • Review and streamlining of all WPB RISK Management Information for the WPB Risk – Assurance and reporting function, ensuring all critical deadlines are met, including;
  • Support in capturing and maintaning country Recovery and Recession dashboards.
  • Support in capturing and maintaining country Credit Risk Forum reporting as well.
  • Support in capturing and maintaining country Operational Risk forum reports

What you’ll do:

Impact on the Business / Function

  • Assist in the monitoring and management of the strategies, processes and rules within the application systems, including scoring models, processing paths, policy and refer rules, verification policies, fraud detection, third party validations and limit assignment matrices to ensure they are performing optimally and maximising profitability.
  • Developing a robust reporting suite across key WPB Risk oversight meetings and making comments, as appropriate to highlight material change.
  • Assist in the development and managemement of the WPB Risk MI framework and undertake adhoc analytics tageted at improving credit strategies and portfolio profitabilty.
  • Being in tune to macro-economic swings in Market of assignment to proactively recommend concerns.
  • Support WPB Stress Testing initiatives

Typical Targets and Measures

  • Meet overall LIC & Profitability targets by proactive risk management.
  • Detailed understanding of  Application Scoring and automated decisioning  strategies.
  • Optimal performance of all credit scoring models automated Credit Strategies.
  • Proactively identify and implement policy and process improvements through day to day work to enhance revenue.
  • Quality and feedback of the material produced for risk oversight meetings

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Build and maintain constructive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.  Maintaining strong communication between WPB RISK and other areas of WPB.
  • Ensure all Service Level Agreements are met and work is delivered error free.
  • Maintain a joined up approach. Support all new product Launches, campaigns and amendments, RRP’s, projects, product programs and all legal changes as required, on a timely basis.
  • Provide key technical input on risk issues in the ongoing development and maintenance of WPB products.
  • Working with Regional and Global Analytics Team on key initiatives, model development and stress testing.

  • Positive feedback from all relevant parties confirming (i) working together with other areas to meet common goals. (ii) Service provided has met expectations.
  • Feedback from relevant parties. All SLA's achieved and work delivered on time and error free. 
  • Evidence of joined up approach and support for new initiatives.
  • Work together with members of WPB RISK team to meet common goals

Leadership & Teamwork  

  • Continued development and knowledge building of risk management and detailed understanding of other key areas within WPB. 
  • Attaining a detailed understanding of best practice for credit risk management and keep abreast of industry trends in Banking & Finance, Mortgages, Credit, Risk and Collections.
  • Mentor and assist in the development of the technical and analytical capabilities of the Risk Analysts and ensure they maintain a steep learning curve with respect to SAS, portfolio management, analytics and general business knowledge.
  • Development of leadership and training skills

Typical Targets and Measures

  • Improved knowledge of risk management systems and other processes through project and day to day work.  Identify new resources for learning.
  • Regular interactions with other teams.  Regulate interaction with immediate team, sharing knowledge and advice on new initiatives, projects. 
  • Assist in the training of Analysts within the team.  Regularly give honest and constructive feedback to team and manager.  Proactively work with Managers and other Senior Analysts to further develop CRM skills.

Major Challenges (The challenges inherent in the role that require a continual test of the role holder’s abilities)

  • Managing the risk/reward trade off across all WPB portfolios to maximise the bank’s profitability
  • Being proactive and sensitive to evolving Risk through changing economic and regulatory environment, maintaining up to date knowledge on both internal and external regulatory requirements, specifically on those that maybe considered emerging risks to the market.
  • Proactively aligning credit policy with emerging risks in the housing market

 

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Essential Qualification

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering / Statistics / Computer Application / Economics / Finance or equivalent streams
  • 8 or more years of relevant analytics experience; particularly around Credit Risk Management including Portfolio Analytics. Prior experience of working in the in-country Risk or Policy teams is preferred.
  • Understanding of Retail banking products & major Banking Regulations and its implications on the bank
  • Ability to simplify complex unstructured problems and recommend actionable solutions
  • Good theoretical and practical knowledge of tools [SAS, MS Office, VBA etc.] & statistics
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, solution oriented, flexible, pragmatic
  • Highly focused on project delivery, attention to details
  • Project Management Skills
  • Ability to work in cross-functional and multi-cultural teams. Strong collaborative, influencing and team building skills
  • Willing to work with colleagues in other areas/time zones, where appropriate
  • Internal candidates must meet performance and behavioral standards as per the policy.
  • All GCB5 & GCB6 applicants should have served at least 18 months in their current role as on the closing date.
  • Applicant should not be on a corrective action plan/ disciplinary action in the last 6 months or any other performance action as on the date of application.
