The Opportunity:

Role purpose

  • HSBC Global Asset Management (AMG) have created a strategic program focused on Investment Restrictions. The aim of the program is to implement a global target operating model around investment restrictions delivering global ownership and oversight, a central team of Investment Restrictions Experts and a strong governance framework.

  • The role will act as Investment Restrictions Operations Specialist in a central team and cover business as usual work as well as change driven project work to support the implementation and maintenance of the target operating model on an ongoing basis.

What you’ll do:

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)

  • Responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of centrally managed Investment Restrictions especially with regards to coding, testing of rules and EOD (End of Day) monitoring of Investment Restrictions.

  • Enable and facilitate the delivery of suitable MI and input for better STP processes to all business lines and functions affected (Risk, Compliance, Front Office, Product, Data, IT, etc.).

  • Drive the reinforcement of skills of the Investment Restrictions staff due to knowledge sharing and definition of best practices.

  • Build a clear, easy to use best practice library on coding, testing and EOD (End of Day) monitoring of Investment Restrictions.

  • Engage with the local Investment Restrictions team and with international key stakeholders from all business lines and functions to define process expectations and quality measurements.

  • Facilitate the generation of monthly MI for the global processes undertaken within all teams and support actions derived based on the outcome.

  • Engage with the Global Data Management team on- and off shore to define data requirements and to enforce data quality and –availability.

  • Build networks with local Investment Restrictions teams creating an ability to understand their requirements and deliver the right services.

  • Understand and ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions (FIMs, GSMs, GCLs, etc.) and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to the Group’s standards of ethical behaviour.

  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

  • Understands, follows and takes measures to demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy.

  • Understand the Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles, HSBC Global Asset Management’s TCF philosophy and how this affects your role. Act in a manner that takes account of these principles to ensure fair outcomes for customers.

  • Demonstrates compliance with HSBC Group or regulatory standards, manuals and policies and observes the defined work practices, internal controls and risk management standards associated with the role.

  • Responsible for the continual assessment of operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructuring and the impact of new technology.

  • Identify and develop solutions to mitigate the risks identified as part of the role - reporting and escalating, if necessary, issues for resolution.

  • Undertake operations in a central team of Investment Restrictions Specialists located in both onshore sites and offshore Service Centres providing services for all AMG production locations. These services include e.g. restrictions management including coding, testing and EOD (End of Day) monitoring of rules on Bloomberg AIM as well as definition and maintenance of quality standards and best practices.

  • Collaborate closely with international key stakeholders from affected business lines and functions within AMG (e.g. Front Office, Product, Risk, Compliance, Data, IT).

  • Enable and manage the development of a strong governance framework around Investment Restrictions on a global basis. This will need to take measures to provide management information (MI) on all investments restrictions processes globally with the ability to drill down to a granular level.

Leadership & Teamwork 

  • Work in a central team with on- and offshore members on a daily basis together with local teams in 15 locations as part of a global community.

  • Interaction with all areas of AMG including Operations, Front Office, Product, Risk, Compliance and IT.

  • Encourage and support local and global teams on knowledge exchange and use off best practices.

  • Demonstrate the importance of connecting effectively with others to improve data quality.

  • Ability to work effectively remotely and across time zones.

  • Raise Business partner satisfaction relating to project processes and deliverables.

  • Support a high-quality environment where attention to detail, accurate and timely reporting and constructive resolution of issues are common practice.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Functional Knowledge

  • Good knowledge of Investment Restrictions processes, minimum 5 years of experience required.

  • Good knowledge of respective local and international regulatory requirements (UCITS, US1940, CESR/10-788, etc.).

  • Good knowledge of fund contracts / IMAs, prospectuses and other relevant mandate specific documentation.

  • Good knowledge of Bloomberg market data (BPS or Data License) required.

  • Track record of guidelines negotiation and practical rule translation, coding, testing and monitoring (pre- and/or post trade).               

Others

  • Demonstrates courageous integrity and ability to challenge existing and new practices.

  • International experience or experience of dealing with international resources.

  • Good communication skills (verbal and written; Business fluent English, other language skills are very welcome).

  • University graduate with more than 7 years of industry experience.

  • System skills: Charles River IMS or Bloomberg AIM required, other Investment Restrictions monitoring Systems (StateStreet MIG21, BlackRock Aladdin, Fidessa Sentinel, etc.) very welcome, advanced MS suite skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio) obligatory.

  • Test Management and Test execution skills required, 2+ years desirable.

  • Project Management or PMO skills desirable.
