Automated or manual screening is conducted using HSBC’s mandated automated customer screening solution which generates alerts for investigation, verification, and follow-up as necessary

The Opportunity:

  • The job holder will lead the team working on Alert reviews and appropriately manage, monitor and guide the team members on effective decision making as and when necessary and is expected to take complete ownership of work performed by the team, which involves thorough investigation and risk assessment. The job holder will stand responsible for the team’s performance and reporting.

What you’ll do:

Impact on the Process - Operations

  • To build, lead, motivate and manage an operations team that are capable to handle both payment screening and name screening, while establishing strong work ethics and open channels of communication
  • Work is organized and processed / completed within agreed timescales. Ongoing monitoring and review of workflow and priorities are in accordance with procedures.
  • Process productivity and quality targets are set, monitored and achieved to ensure optimum resource utilization and achievement of business objectives and customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Procedural changes / new initiatives are reviewed, fully communicated to and implemented by the teams under control.
  • Processes are regularly reviewed to identify improvements, which will enhance operational and financial effectiveness.
  • Drive and implement the yearly AOP plan for the process that maximizes capacity utilization

Impact on the Business - Operations

  • MI and other business data requirements are completed accurately and supporting statistics/reports/returns are presented to business/management within agreed timescales.
  • To continually reassess the operational risks inherent in the business taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology *
  • To implement Group Sanctions Screening Policy by containing compliance risk in conjunction with the relevant compliance department. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant laws, rules and codes.
  • To maintain HSBC internal and external control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • Effectively re-assess and mitigate identified Operational Risks.
  • Comply with Group’s statutory audit standards.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationship with all stakeholders and identify areas of service improvements.
  • Drive customer centric Quality initiatives.
  • Ensure timely effective resolution of escalated issues

Major Challenges

  • Need to build strong process knowledge covering all aspects of Sanctions Name Screening & Payments Screening so as to effectively handle escalations raised by the team.
  • Lead and motivate team/s in a challenging environment to prioritize conflicting demands and achieve best results.
  • Decision making under pressure, giving due consideration to quality, time scales and cost.
  • To fully understand the existing regulatory environment and processes of the business and impact on day-to-day activities.
  • To be aware of changes and updates in the process and compliance world which will impact performance and share the same with colleagues in time.
  • Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)
  • To abide by the Group business risk and control management policy by containing Information risk in conjunction with relevant compliance Department. The term compliance embraces all relevant laws, rules and codes with which the business has to apply.
  • The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the process/workflow and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices.

Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)

  • To maintain HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls and to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where necessary, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • A Bachelor’s/Master’s degree (E)
  • Proven track record of managing people for at least 2 years (E)
  • Flexibility to work in shifts [Including Night / Day] (E)
  • Minimum 18 months in the Risk Operations as SME/ AMO-Team Coordinator (7B)
  • Experience in working / managing Payments or Name Screening. (E)
  • Strong knowledge on various payments channel and Swift payments (E)
  • Excellent Communication, presentation and inter-personal skills
  • Highly effective motivational and coaching skills
  • Ability to analyze business trends to effectively utilize resources and manage productivity to achieve agreed PLAs
  • Lateral thinker and self-starter with an ability to interpret and solve complex issues
  • Procedures change frequently; selected candidates are expected to drive the change in the teams immediately
  • Self-motivated, pragmatic and ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to identify, understand, analyze and manage/mitigate risk
  • Problem solvers, think outside of the box, think both strategically and tactically to make screening utility more business and customer centric
