  • Risk Stewardship Support team is a part of Regulatory Compliance Center of Excellence.
  • Team supports RC risk stewards is delivering their risk management responsibilities in line with HSBC’s Risk Management Framework. Team supports Group RC, Regions, Country and Business lines RC Risk Stewards in design, implementation, embedding and management of the HSBC Risk Management Framework and NFR guidelines. Team primarily supports the stakeholders with ‘Governance and Oversight’ of Regulatory Compliance risk profile.

The Opportunity:

  • Producing reports to support Risk Stewards taking an intelligence-led approach to overseeing changes in 1LoD RC risks, identifying areas where there may be potential detriment requiring further investigation
  • Consolidating information from various HSBC systems (Helios, NFR dashboards etc) and producing MI for senior risk management forums, including information on escalations, and agreed actions
  • Identification and management of new RC risks (internal and external), the gathering and analysis of RC risk data from across the Three Lines of Defense (3LoD) as well as challenging the Risk Assessment ratings and Risk Profile reporting to ensure that RC risk is being managed within Risk Appetite.
  • Support to RC colleagues in the Global Lines of Business (GLoB), Regions and Countries, to oversee and challenge their business’s (1LoD) RC risk profile
  • The successful applicant will need to have excellent data analysis, reporting and communication skills, Risk management knowledge, an inquisitive and investigative mind-set.

What you’ll do:

Principal Accountabilities

  • To support Group/Businesses/Countries/Regions by providing specialist assistance as required;
  • Support the risk stewards in reviewing, challenging and reporting the Regulatory Compliance risk
  • To proactively identify key emerging risks across all RC categories and interface appropriately with other Compliance teams and senior management;
  • To provide understanding of the potential impact and associated consequences of new / emerging risks;
  • To pro-actively work with the Business and Stakeholders to develop policies and procedures as required;
  • To provide innovative and effective solutions based on SME knowledge that assist the Business / Function

Teamwork

  • Effective collaboration across the HSBC Group including the country risk stewards, CoE leaders, RC senior leadership, Group RC, across all regions to support regulatory compliance stewardship tasks
  • Provide Constructive feedback while collaborating with colleagues in process of achieving stewardship objectives
  • Assist in creating & maintaining an environment within the team which fosters free sharing of knowledge & ideas developing soft skills and technical competency for self

Specific responsibilities

  • Support development and implementation of globally consistent Risk Stewardship to provide actionable risk insights
  • Consolidation and analysis of risk information to identify RC risk insights for senior stakeholders to action;
  • Delivery of products that support the risk stewardship model and promote an active risk management culture within compliance
  • Implementation of tracking and oversight protocols to ensure action is taken, where required;
  • Supporting Group RC team with Monitoring and Oversight of various risk steward responsibilities by performing quarterly and annual testing
  • Manage the preparation of reports such as Risk Maps, Risk Appetite Statement and Consolidated Risk Report

Supporting responsibilities / capabilities

  • Providing input into the design of and implementing enhancements to risk framework components, managing the incorporation of Regulatory Compliance requirements within the overall risk governance framework and strategy
  • Working with Compliance MI and Project teams to oversee the design and implementation of a new technical solution to ensure data is available via a user-friendly front-end reporting tool.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Risk Frameworks – Knowledge and understanding of Risk Management Framework and an understanding of the concepts supporting risk framework, the lines of defence, how they interact and how a risk profile is established, with key risks identified and appropriate controls mapped. Knowledge of how a risk profile can be challenged and remediation activities tracked
  • Analytical Skills – The candidates must be able to understand source data, compare information from across the three lines of defense and reach a conclusion, identifying anomalies and where further input required. This includes both strong verbal and numerical analysis, as successful applicants will have to use numerical comparison and close reading of rationales to reach suitable conclusions
  • Regulatory Risks – Knowledge of the wider regulatory environment and some idea of the likely regulatory risks and upcoming changes that are most likely to impact HSBC.
  • Business Processes – Candidates should have an overall understanding of the different types of businesses of HSBC and the types of products offered by each
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Candidates must feel confident engaging with stakeholders. Candidates must be able to build effective working relationships and provide robust challenge and feedback where necessary without compromising those relationships
  • Report Writing – Candidates must be able to summarise large amounts of complex data into clear and comprehensive reports that can be readily understood by a senior audience. Candidates must be able to work to challenging deadlines to produce such reports
  • To support decisions with sound reasoning, clearly articulate the case for risk management and policy and the business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings
  • A highly motivated and dynamic self-starter, working collaboratively within teams, delivering on time and with a strong attention to detail. High level of professional and personal integrity

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Project management skills – A good understanding of project management techniques and experience in project delivery would be desirable, Successful delivery within a change / project environment
