The Opportunity:

  • Senior Product Owner is a high profile role accountable for driving the delivery of business and operational requirements across our Payments Infrastructure, specifically for our orchestration layer i.e Payment Cloud Services (PCS)
  • The Payments Infrastructure team operates across all our payment systems Cross Border / high value, Domestic & Real Time Payments, Investigations, Messaging and post processing, and is a key partner to Operations, LOB product leads and Technology. Payment Cloud Services operates in all these areas, as well as all other major Business function within HSBC Group

What you’ll do:

  • The PO role is accountable for successful delivery of the projects and ensuring benefits realization and will hold the following responsibilities:
  • Manage a backlog of requirements for a program, working closely with business stakeholders. Ensure correct prioritization of the backlog delivery working with IT stakeholders
  • Provide oversight to Bas in terms of deliverables and SME support, eg review user stories for correctness, drive end to end traceability creation for the requirements lifecycle
  • Ensure consistency with global payment processing workflow as far as possible, driving out local changes unless driven by pressing Business, regulatory or compliance needs.
  • As part of existing governance processes, organize and run meetings with key global, regional and local Business, Service Delivery and Software Delivery stakeholders to review user requirements and advise on the appropriate approach to any functional change.
  • Maintain rigorous change control standards around requirements documentation.
  • Lead global, regional and local stakeholders (across Business, Service Delivery and Software Delivery) to agreement and development of cost-effective solution.
  • Form effective working relationships with all stakeholders to deliver to scope, cost and time
  • Coordinate defect tracking and investigation efforts with concerned parties.
  • Work with User Acceptance Testing team, Software Delivery, Service Delivery (Operations) and application vendor to triage defects raised.
  • Support operational readiness activities.
  • Demonstrate clear ability to challenge existing processes and practices where they do not align to the Payment Services payments Target Operating model and payments infrastructure architecture.
  • Show the character to uphold HSBC values and standards where applicable and prevent divergence from best practice, escalating to senior management where appropriate.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements addressing risk management are delivered to meet mandatory timescales.
  • Ensure competing scheduling demands that introduce risk are escalated to senior management immediately on identification of contention.
  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Work closely with multiple global stakeholders across Operations Transformation, IT, Payment Operations and Business Lines to maintain engagement and deliver successfully across our global footprint.
  • Work with the project stakeholders to manage end-to-end delivery including requirements and solution workshops steering, project scoping, project implementation and transition into BAU (as applicable) for flagship programs like the ISO 2022 implementation

 

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Possess excellent payments knowledge gained over a number of years working in the High Value and Low Value payments and investigations environment preferably in a multi-regional role.
  • Excellent Stakeholder management across a complex environment – Business Lines, Change Delivery, Service Delivery, Software Delivery.
  • Ability to transition rapidly into role and become effective within a short period.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and drive solutions based on those decisions, with the support of the wider team (IT / Vendor).
  • Knowledge of defect management best practice.
  • Experience of creating and maintaining functional programme roadmaps.
  • Strong communication, analytical, decision making and presentation skills.
  • Ability to form effective relationships and achieve influence at senior levels in the organization.
  • Excellent Stakeholder Management and collaboration skills and experience working across multiple geographies and different cultures.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, delivery-focused and strong team player.
  • Proactive and willing to use own initiative to resolve issues in solution-driven environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be resilient and pragmatic.

Functional Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of the SWIFT ecosystem, including but not limited to messaging standards for MT1xx, MT2XX and MT9XX and their ISO equivalent messages with their application across the entire organisation, not just for payment related activity.
  • Be well versed with current and future SWIFT propositions specifically related to MX migrations across industry
