  • The responsibilities of the team include setting out, and subsequently holding Global Businesses and Functions accountable to follow a unified Data Strategy. This includes ensuring data is unambiguously defined, that it is controlled and managed to an appropriate level of quality, that Businesses/Functions comply with internal data policies and external data regulations, that data is sourced from appropriate (ideally “trusted”) sources.
  • The objectives of the team include playing an active role in coordinating the delivery of strategic data capabilities, providing effective monitoring and controls, consistently reporting and ensuring that the strategic future vision for data across the enterprise is realized.

The Opportunity:

  • UK Data Management Team (UK DMT) provides analytics support to various group businesses and functions. Typical deliverables include data analysis, providing analytics insights, model & data validation, calibration, strategy development, monitoring and reporting, information management and business intelligence. The deliverables form the basis for strategic planning by the senior management for businesses and enables effective decision making to satisfy business needs and requirements along with addressing unforeseen challenges.
  • UK DMT performs data quality checks on LGD data owned by HBEU WMR Wholesale Credit Risk and delivered to GRA for modelling purposes. Provide ongoing compliance with Data Governance principles in terms of Critical Data Elements, lineage and data dictionaries. It tests LGD loss data quality, identify breaches and escalate to relevant functions and business through a defined governance framework. Support issue remediation to improve data quality, and track remediation activity where appropriate
  • This role will be responsible for supporting the portfolio analytics, Regulatory reporting and data-based decision making across the commercial banking portfolios within the HBEU region. This would include providing analytical support towards portfolio credit risk management with expected contribution focus towards data analysis, regulatory risk reporting, IFRS9 implementation, S166 data quality review etc.

What you’ll do:

The job-holder’s responsibilities cover at a high level the following:

  • Championing the validation of critical data contained in credit applications and produced by risk rating models.  In addition, oversee business as usual processes to review, monitor, report and, where applicable correct, deficiencies to this data. 
  • It is expected that the candidate will:
  • Work with onshore WCRM to deliver various Portfolio risk priorities including risk analytics, segmentation, regulatory risk reporting, Ring fenced Banking, IFRS9 framework implementation etc.
  • Manage independent projects and provide best in class solutions to Group/ regions on the above analytical problem. A hand on analytical deep dive into the process and designing solutions is must requirement for the role.
  • Innovate, Drive standardization across regions by owning and delivering various Portfolio analytics Global standard solutions out of WCRM Data Analysis, Control & Reporting.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders including in regions depending on the priority
  • Drive quality outputs and design solutions to portfolio analytical problem and create capability
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Qualifications:

  • Masters in any numeric discipline :-
  • Economics/Engineering (or B-tech with relevance experience)/Stats/Maths/MS / MBA in Finance

Experience:

  • At least  2-3 years of professional experience in financial services
  • Prior experience in credit risk analytics, risk management, Data Management & Data Control would be preferred
  • Understanding of regulatory implications and relevance 
  • Understanding of commercial banking and related products

Skills:

  • Strong programming skills in SAS and experience of working with large volume of data - Mandatory
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, open minded, flexible, pragmatic
  • Strong documentation and summarizing skills for senior audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong collaborative, influencing and team building skills
  • Good estimating and planning skills
  • Able to progress multiple tasks at the same time
  • Able to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Highly focused on project delivery, attention to detail
  • Willing to work with colleagues in other areas/timezones where appropriate

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Experience in corporate banking / wholesale risk management/ portfolio management in multiple corporate sectors/ geographies is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HSBC Group, its operations, systems and products and risk systems preferable
  • Self-starter, who can think proactively. Demonstrate the ability to learn abstract concepts and to operate effectively against uncertainty and on unfamiliar ground.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate with a various range of stakeholders including technical and non-technical staff.
