The Opportunity:

Role purpose

  • Accounts and SSI function within Corp & Investment Banking Business Services is functionally responsible for maintaining all Account and Settlement Instructions level data across number of Group Systems. This includes setting up, amending and de-activating both Account data and Settlement Instructions for all Global Banking, Global Markets, Commercial Banking Client (utilizing Global Markets Products), Prime Services (PS), Funds and Strategic clients across geographic locations.
  • Account and SSI is a well-established function operating globally and supporting 40 countries with 3 hubs in London, New York and Hong Kong and two processing sites in Bangalore and KL. The functions deal with large and extremely time sensitive transactions which are required to be performed with high level of quality and integrity while following FIM guidelines and therefore demands proactive management of operational risk, capacity planning and robust measurement of performance metrics

What you’ll do:

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)

Impact on the Business/Function

  • Should be able to propose improvements to enhance Process/ Procedures/ Systems
  • Develop a broad understanding of the Accounts & SSI Data Ops process and stay updated on regulatory developments, stock exchange and other factors affecting daily processing activities
  • Ability to handle UAT, process initiatives, new technology implementation etc.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant policies and procedures issued by the Group and contained with the Group Standards Manual and relevant Functional Manuals, Desk Instructions Books and Process Guides

Customers / Stakeholders

  • To strive for excellence in customer service.
  • Should be able to revert to the onshore business partner’s/stake holders on all investigative queries/escalations.
  • All feedback given should be maintained and structured appropriately and communication in this regard to be carried out effectively and efficiently
  • Responsible for workload management and delivery of volumes and quality which will include assigning and allocation of tasks in timely and in an accurate manner, within SLAs.
  • Active participation and contribution in all quality initiatives within the team/ process both for improvement of productivity & quality
  • Support and contribute to ideas that will help in making a definitive improvement in Voice of Business / Voice of Customer
  • Implementation of process re-engineering initiatives with evidence of their impact on the process.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with business areas and identify areas of service improvements.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Ensure that errors of the inputters/Approvers are recorded in a robust and timely manner. Ensure timely and accurate feedback provided to all staff on errors.
  • Display a high level of integrity and prudence while identifying and logging errors against the staff.
  • Maintain error tracking logs for all Quality Checking that has been completed for individuals. Handle conflicts arising from the feedback extended to the staff effectively and amicably.
  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
  • Ability to implement Proactive controls and Action plans to mitigate Data Quality issues.
  • Achieve compliance with all group and risk policy and standard guidelines

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Ensure quality and productivity standards are consistently maintained
  • Ensure procedural changes and new initiatives are reviewed, agreed with the business areas, fully communicated to staff and implemented.
  • Implementation of process re-engineering initiatives with evidence of their impact on the process. Ability to generate Automation ideas to reduce the manual effort/intervention.

Role Context

  • This role is core processing which involves Creation/Amendments/Deletion of Standard Settlement Instructions raised by GFX Ops/CMG and other internal stake holders.
  • Undertake a 100% quality checks while working on Accounts/SSIs at both maker and checker process
  • Ability to handle process initiatives like UAT, Project Management, new technology implementation etc.
  • Active participation and contribution in all quality initiatives within the team/ process both for improvement of productivity & quality

Business Impact:

  • Given the criticality of the process, transactional volumes and value of the business overall, this role requires the job holder to maintain the creation/Amends/Deletion of SSIs/Accounts swiftly and accurately, adhering to the process and guidelines to ensure nil impact to the business. Any exceptions, failures, inaccuracies or delays could potentially result in any of the following impacts.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Functional Knowledge

  • Having experience on Financial Markets and Trade Life Cycle
  • Having 2+ years of operations experience
  • Must be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with this role and to ensure that all actions performed consider the likelihood of operational risk occurring.

Competencies – Skills

  • Possess good knowledge of operational workflow and systems within Accounts and SSI. (D)
  • Evidenced ability to build rapport with various stakeholders and can contribute to make the team more effective (E).
  • Excellent Communication, planning and organizing skills. (E)
  • Ability to learn quickly and transfers knowledge appropriately, understand and interpret data. (E).
  • Knowledge in Global Banking and Markets (E)
  • Shift Timings: Flexible / Rotational.
