  • Wholesale Business Risk is responsible for the oversight and mitigation of Financial and Non-Financial Risks in the First Line of Defense for Global Banking (GB) and Commercial Banking (CMB). Working with Business areas, the team is responsible for providing specialist risk support including risk identification and assessment of Business Risks as part of the activities and process within the lines of business.

The Opportunity:

  • This is an exciting time to join the Wholesale Information Risk team as we look to develop and enhance our controls in the Information Risk space to ensure we deploy safe and secure tools that comply to our Policy and the expectations of our regulator. This role will be at the forefront of driving the requirements for Wholesale at Group level and ensuring we deploy fit for purpose solutions for our staff to use both internally and externally and communicating these changes to our staff.
  • The individual will influence and ensure consistency of the Private side control framework for Wholesale (CMB, GB & WCOO) with stakeholder buy-in across the regulatory risk space.

What you’ll do:

In this role you will

  • Manage relationships with stakeholders across WCOO, CMB, GB, GLCM, GTRF, MSS, DBS as well as key risk stewards such as Compliance (RC) and Legal.
  • Act as the Wholesale lead and owner of key private side systems and processes (eShare, Conflicts & Joiner, Movers & Leavers).
  • Attend key programme forums representing Wholesale and influence / input as required to ensure fit for purpose solutions are deployed.
  • Report progress, issues, dependencies and risks to working groups and decision making forums and make recommendations to influence decision making in order to improve governance and simplify the management of key risks.
  • Oversee design and agreement of requirements for any enhancements to the key areas cited including updating first line of defence global procedures and ensuring all key stakeholders are engaged.
  • Be the point of contact for all queries across the 6 regions relating to the topics highlighted above.
  • Undertake ad hoc activities as required e.g. producing and delivering training materials.

Governance and Committee Memberships  

  • Member of Business Reg Risk forums + other transformation programmes led by Wholesale or actively participating in Group forums
  • Other forums as required e.g. Whoesale NFR/ WBR ManCo

Accountabilities for Business, Customers and Stakeholders

Impact on the Business

  • Acting as a gatekeeper in Wholesale to ensure solutions that are deployed meet the regulatory obligations for our businesses.
  • Reviewing the effectiveness of processes, procedures and controls within Wholesale to manage the associated regulatory risks to whilst contributing to the bank’s simplification agenda.
  • Reviewing the outcome of themes from audits or compliance reviews and related deliverables and contribute to protecting the bank against a number of key risks including financial misconduct and market abuse.
  • Subject Matter Expert to coach and guide regional stakeholders

Customers/Stakeholders

Key stakeholders will be:

  • Wider NFR/ WBR colleagues in other business lines
  • Wholesale Non-Financial Risk team across the 6 regions (UK, USA, MENAT, LATAM, Continental Europe and ASP, ensuring that the work is fully visible and co-ordinated with key regional stakeholders.
  • Primary functional relationships will be with Regulatory Compliance and Risk teams including Legal.
  • Primary business relationships will be with the respective senior management for CMB and GB.

Leadership & Teamwork 

  • Build ‘trusted advisor’ relationships with internal customers at a global and regional level to understand their objectives and help achieve deliverables.
  • Understand and manage client/stakeholders’ requirements and expectations to ensure their satisfaction.
  • Accept overall responsibility and accountability for deliverables as required.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Adequate knowledge of Group Operational Risk / Non Financial Risk Framework
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills that translates to communicating ideas clearly and influence a wide range of people including teams members, peers, senior stakeholders including Audit and Risk Stewards
  • Comfortable with working within a matrix organizational environment
  • Strong understanding of technology, regulatory landscape and information security risk/control disciplines
  • Extremely keen eye for detail.
  • Organized & logical thinker.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, complemented by interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels.
  • Good management skills, with experience in team building and managing a wide range of topics / projects.
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff when required, employing appropriate management styles.
  • Capability to accommodate new requirements and quickly become a subject matter expert in emerging requirements.
  • Ability to distill complex and varied information into useful, insightful and concise recommendations.
  • Ability to identify, assess and communicate the need for risk management intervention in a complex and fast paced environment.

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience within HSBC 1st line roles along with some leadership experience
  • Demonstrable problem-solving experience and supporting decision making process through active participation within Working Groups
  • Has foundational knowledge of the businesses supported by Wholesale Banking.
  • Sound knowledge of the Risk Management Framework, preferably through previous role.
