- Post-crisis, and in particular with the implementation of Basel III, capital has become a scarce resource and the capital management processes have needed to evolve to reflect this. Capital planning, optmisation and performance are now an integral part of Finance Processes, including Financial Resource Planning and stress testing. Effective capital management, planning and forecasting requires successful co-ordination of activities across a wide range of stakeholders against frequently tight timetables, the ability to work collaboratively with other teams within Finance while providing an effective review and challenge, the ability to place the capital plans within a commercial context and identify opportunities for improvement, and clear communication of the outcomes.
The Opportunity:
- This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be part of analytics team within Group Treasury, Capital Management. The role holder will have the opportunity to understand and work on many disciplines, including the projected capital adequacy involving Capital ratios/requirements, Leverage, Double Leverage, Holdings Capital Buffer, MREL (minimum requirements for regulatory instruments and other eligible liabilities), for both internal and external BAU reporting and supporting Stress testing scenarios. Role holder will be primary contact for internal controls & compliance within Capital Planning process by providing relevant guidance and will facilitate periodic review and challenge meetings with regional capital teams, 2nd line of defense, and other internal review meetings. Role holder will be primary contact for delivery and maintenance of the IRR control remediation and uplift as part of the IRR-PRA program. Role holder will add value, by implementing processes and controls which improves internal and external reporting which ensures we efficiently use capital, thus providing the business with opportunities for investment or increased shareholder returns.
What you’ll do:
- The role holder be a part of Group Treasury within the Capital Management team and will work across number of disciplines within Group Capital Management, and report to the Capital Analytics Team Lead and the IRR programme. Role holder will work very closely with Group Capital Management teams in the UK, Europe, Americas, Middle East and HK and functionally report to Head of Capital Adequacy, Group Capital Management.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Support the production of the internal reporting and external reporting requirements, including actuals and capital forecasting.
- Ensuring that the outputs are of a high quality, reflecting accepted regulatory policy and standards.
- Act as the primary Regulatory Reporting Risk policy SME, responsible for adherence and maintenance of the control requirements re. processes, controls, calculators, applications, EUCs, data & traceability.
- Embed controls in BAU and maintain artefacts going forward.
- Support assessment and articulation of risks to capital.
- Ensure Risk and Control Assessment (RCA) for Treasury Capital Management processes is maintained, by ensuring the risks and controls assessments are updated on a regular basis and ensuring adequate training is provided to the wider team, fostering a compliance culture.
- Identify control gaps & log issues, ensuring resolution are actively managed.
- Lead and manage periodic review and challenge meetings with regional capital teams, 2nd line of defense (SLOD), and other stakeholders.
- Principle point of contact for Programme Managers, Risk Stewards, Assurance teams, Operational risk and other stakeholders, on this subject.
- Primary contact for audits and reviews, and ensuring the audit/review observations are implemented within the defined timelines, and representing the team in various control forums.
- Working with the wider Treasury Capital management team to ensure plans reflect impacts of capital initiatives and regulatory change, and to identify further opportunities.
What you will need to succeed in the role:
- We are looking for an individual who has knowledge of accounting/financial reporting, capital requirements or has experience in analytics within financial services. More specifically,
- Finance/ treasury/ risk background, with knowledge of accounting/financial reporting, capital requirements and market risk.
- Experience with regulatory reporting processes and risk and control assessments.
- Understand the risks and the need for process and control documentation for regulatory reporting processes or equivalent (such as Sox standards or internal or external audit experience)
- Experience in Internal/External Audits, Controls and Compliance will be an advantage.
- Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. banking and relevant market/context, i.e. Capital management, Capital reporting, regulatory experience, PRA experience.
- Understanding of banking products and how they relate to capital requirements.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal. Experience of preparing summaries and presenting information to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to work with, co-ordinate and influence a wide range of stakeholders. Experience of working with regulators an advantage.
- Good understanding of, and ability to pro-actively manage, risks.
- Able to deliver to tight deadlines, react quickly when required.
- Appetite to seek opportunities and work beyond the immediate boundaries of the role.
- A broad understanding of financial budgets/statements/models, with experience of analyzing data effectively for planning, forecasting and reporting.
- Qualified ACA /CA/ Management Accountant / MBA / CFA with experience in Finance, Treasury, Corporate Finance and Banking. Significant operational experience (e.g., 12+ years) within Treasury/Capital Planning or Financial Reporting will be advantageous.
Skills:
- Experience having controls & compliance exposure, exposure on BCBS 239 controls standards, some capital understanding, risk and control compliance, etc.
What additional skills will be good to have?
- Knowledge of software development and ideally some experience in coding.
