Wealth and Personal Banking has four key business areas responsible for efficiently bringing the best of HSBC to our clients through a broad and relevant suite of wealth and retail banking capabilities: Asset Management, Global Private Banking & Wealth, HSBC Life, Retail Banking & Strategy and COO & Digital Transformation.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a WPB Business Architect (6 months contract).

Principal Responsibilities

Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB) is a global business of HSBC, providing retail banking and wealth management services to three customer segments: Personal Banking (mass segment), Premier Banking (affluent) and Private Banking, across 51 countries.

Digitalization is a key pillar of WPB’s strategy and a key enabler of its operating model. WPB has been investing >$1bn per annum in its digitalization priorities, primarily focused on introducing and enhancing capabilities in the mobile and internet banking channels.

As part of the WPB COO & Digital Transformation team, Business Architecture supports the effective and efficient delivery of change globally for WPB by:

  • Ensuring timely decisions on architecture of capabilities developed by WPB value streams, in collaboration with WPB IT Architecture and WPB Data Architecture. While architecture decisions at the level of a value stream or a capability area (e.g., GPB & Wealth, Retail Banking) are expected to be taken within those areas, the focus of this team is on cross-value stream, WPB-level architecture decisions and on issues escalated for decision to the global WPB level
  • Management of integrated, complete and up to date Future State Architecture artefacts that support WPB Target future state plans, supporting the annual funding prioritization process through development of initiatives that generate efficiency and commercial returns from implementation of the Target state
  • Putting in place and overseeing mechanisms to optimize reuse of capabilities across markets and avoid unnecessary product variation; identifying opportunities to further reuse the already existing digital assets
  • Supporting WPB value streams in definition of capabilities that are fit for purpose, in collaboration with WPB Technology stakeholders
  • Managing overarching change governance across business and technology for VS solution decisions e.g. 
    • Items that are already submitted but need additional business inputs
    • Items that are more business/product led
    • Recommendations for replacing tactical solutions with strategic ones
    • Global vs local build decisions etc
  • Managing resolution of complex cross-VS solution design issues
  • Delivering on key HSBC Group-level business architecture priorities

The role of Business Architecture is to support the global Value Streams model; providing overarching principles and guidance to VS members, ensuring a coordinated approach to developing and implementing a cohesive business architecture infrastructure, building global capabilities that are re-usable, sustainable and that drive efficiency while meeting business outcomes and customer needs.

The role holder will work collaboratively with Group Business Architecture and Technology Architecture teams, attending decision forums to ensure any Business impact is well represented and considered. They will also coordinate the Business & IT Architecture forum to address escalations and address common Value Stream challenges in a timely manner.

  • Attending combined Technology and Business Architecture decision forums and following up with Architects / Business Owners for any items ‘escalated to executive level’
  • Support leadership discussions on key issues through development of required artefacts in coordination with relevant stakeholders
  • Maintaining WPB Business Services within the HSBC Group Service Catalogue, and owning the governance / change request process for updates
  • Support working group discussions, by developing discussion material and capturing minutes, to optimize reuse of capabilities across markets and avoid unnecessary product variation
  • Support adhoc Business Architecture queries, gathering business information to inform decisions
  • Collaborate with projects to build their Business Architecture blueprints and draw insights that can help the program achieve greater efficiency
  • Support business teams in adhering to change implementation standards and other risk & compliance requirements
  • Support business teams/ other Business Architects in analysis and mapping of services, processes, and other Business Architecture elements
  • Deliver on key HSBC Group-level business architecture priorities
  • Manage operational and administrative activities for the Business Architecture team
Requirements
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong stakeholder management / Relationship Management, with the ability to interact with and influence Senior Leaders as needed
  • Well-developed analytical skills and the ability to get into the details, while also seeing and understanding the big picture
  • Able to think laterally and take a pragmatic approach to issue resolution when necessary
  • Ability to bring clarity to ambiguous situations and problems
  • Capacity to work on multiple projects and prioritise effectively
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently, under pressure and proactively in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork
  • Experience of working in a global environment, working across cultures and matrix structures, ability to embrace diversity.
  • Positive, proactive and can-do attitude
  • Familiarity with tooling such as Jira and Confluence will be beneficial
  • A broad understanding of the retail banking and wealth management industry, including products, competitive landscape, regulatory environment and digitalization/innovation trends
  • Agile Ways of Operating, operational Value Streams and Business Architecture frameworks
  • Digital transformation operations and change delivery
  • Ability to grasp complex business and technology problems and design solutions to address these; understanding of technical design of digital capabilities across the layers of the technology stack
  • Analytical skills to derive insight from large amounts of imperfect data and information
  • Ability to take a commercial stance when evaluating architecture decisions
  • Working on a global scale (i.e. across time zone & geography and with remote teams) and navigating through a complex matrix organizational structure
  • Defining, establishing and communicating new/improved governance and processes
  • Preparing executive presentations to support decision making
  • Coordinating and/or leading decision-making forums
  • Knowledge of HSBC and WPB environment including strategy, products, processes, technology and people
