We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Director, Head of Product Management, GPS Singapore

Role Purpose 

GPS is one of HSBC’s global product lines. As a part of Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB), GPS supports relationship managers by providing the products and expertise their customers need. Through a comprehensive range of product solutions, GPS helps corporates in managing their payables, receivables and liquidity effectively. Further, given the dynamic nature of the market, demanding client base and evolving payments & digital infrastructure landscape in Singapore, it’s increasingly important to ensure that GPS existing propositions stay relevant and new propositions are rolled out in a timely manner aligned to market changes and client needs. 

Reporting into the Head of GPS Singapore, the role will be responsible for proactively supporting business growth, managing business risk for GPS product suite for corporate and institutional clients, as well as positioning HSBC as the top cash management provider and thought leader in the country.  

The incumbent will lead a strong and seasoned team of ~15+ product managers across product verticals of Payments, Corporate Cards and Liquidity, driving both strategic planning and execution in close conjunction with the head of the business towards realizing the broader country aspirations from the business. The incumbent will be accountable for all aspects of product P&L / financial performance, growth & regulatory project execution, ongoing risk management, market/regulator engagement as well as internal stakeholder/partner engagement particularly GPS Ops/Technology, ALCM and risk stewards. 

Principal Accountabilities 

Impact on Business/Function 

  • Achieve annual plan on GPS revenue, liabilities, and fee growth across segments – GNB, GC, IMM, ICG and IVB. Maximize the share of client’s GPS wallet through ensuring delivery of relevant product / propositions for all segments  
  • Develop and execute suitable medium and long-term strategies for the GPS business to ensure market and thought leadership for the GPS business in Singapore  
  • Drive the delivery of a comprehensive and competitive suite of GPS solutions, delivered through a range of delivery channels by executing a commercially focused product management strategy, which aligns with the propositional requirements of the Customer Groups  
  • Lead the development and execution of a culture that delivers superior experience to clients across the range of GPS products  
  • Communicate and engage with stakeholders at Regional, Country and ASP / global stakeholders 
  • Improve HSBC's brand profile as undisputed leader in Payments in the country; Accountable for successful brand management by maintaining the leading positioning in various banking industry surveys, and actively improving market perception, cash management solicitation and client recommendation  
  • Attract, develop and retain a highly effective and diverse team and ensure effective succession planning  
  • Responsible for commercialization of new product/solutions to clients across segments  

Customers / Stakeholders 

  • Strive for world class-leading customer experience by cultivating a consistent client centric culture within the product team as well as end to end view while developing product i.e. implementation and servicing 
  • Collaborate with other product groups –MSS and GTS to build and deliver solutions that are best in class, grow market share and position HSBC as best transaction bank  
  • Develop networks with key external stakeholders such as regulatory bodies, IT vendors and leverage these to drive thought/market leadership  
  • Understand current economic trends and its impact on HSBC Singapore and identify key levers to capitalize on opportunities or minimize downside exposure 
  • Represent GPS at local/regional product governance committees and forums and align prioritization within the HSBC organizational matrix  
  • Proactively engaging with frontline teams (GPS, Coverage) as well as meeting an array of clients on a regular basis to ensure that our product propositions and strategy is fit for purpose and in line with market / client needs  
  • By being “the voice of GPS Singapore business and its clients” within regional and global forum to draw sufficient prioritization and resources to meet customer demands emanating from the market  
  • Maintain and enhance quality of interaction and engagement with senior coverage stakeholders to drive the larger GPS agenda

Operational Effectiveness & Control 

  • Maintain and observe all HSBC control standards and implement and observe the Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators  
  • Implement the Group compliance policy locally by containing compliance risk in liaison with the Regional/In-Country Compliance Officers ensuring adequate compliance resources and training 
  • Foster a compliance culture. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply  
  • Continually re-assess the operational risks inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings and the impact of new technology 
  • Contribute to the overall corporate governance structure in the Region, including policy and decision-making, as a member of various Committees

Role Context  

Environment and Operating Conditions 

  • The payments and regulatory landscape, competition, and client needs, all are extremely dynamic in nature and continuously evolving. The incumbent will need to stay abreast of these changes individually as well as a collective and comprehend future direction of the payments business in the country in terms of opportunities and challenges. Hence while delivering on immediate needs/business objectives, the incumbent will need to be able to think and comprehend medium to long term impact of various changes, have the ability to prioritize the areas GPS as a business needs to invest into, drive innovation and build capabilities towards building scale in the business in form of increase in client base, flows/ volumes, revenue and market share.  
  • Apart from engagement with clients for strategic dialogue, the incumbent will need to interface with senior functionaries in various external parties like regulators, market participants, market intermediaries, different Customer Groups and other Product Groups within the Bank in the normal course of functioning to achieve the overall business objectives 

Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements) 

  • Maintain and observe HSBC internal control standards, implement, and observe Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators. Foster a compliance culture and implement Group Compliance Policy by managing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Regional Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources are in place and training is provided, and optimising relations with regulators
Requisitos

Knowledge & Experience 

  • Degree or professional-level education with significant years of banking experience, preferably in payments and cash management, with a strong background in the payments and clearing business 
  • Proven commercial track record and leadership capabilities 
  • Demonstrated innovation and ability to deliver long-term strategic initiatives to maintain a competitive edge 
  • Strong industry and regulatory engagement experience, with the ability to represent the bank in external working groups, industry bodies, and regulatory forums 
  • Broad understanding of balance sheet management, including product impacts on liquidity, capital, and funding costs 
  • Proven track record in driving fee income and deposit growth, and in the commercialisation of new product launches 
  • Solid experience in product risk governance and management, with a clear understanding of internal risk frameworks and regulatory expectations 
  • Ability to work effectively in highly matrixed environments and influence multi-stakeholders across regional/global teams as well as across Technology, Operations and Risk functions 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence at senior levels 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative team player
