We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Director, Sustainable Finance & Transaction Origination and Structuring - Asia - Hong Kong.

Role purpose

Sustainability including the transition to net zero remains a key priority for HSBC and Sustainable Finance and Transition (SF&T) is accountable for the delivery of the commercial opportunity and net zero commitments.  

Sustainable Capex is expected to grow from $3tr today to $5trn by 2030, with an addressable banking wallet of $80-110bn in annual revenue.  This represents a significant growth opportunity for the Sustainable Finance & Transition business (SF&T) today.

The SF&T strategy has three reinforcing strategic drivers:

1.    Leading Bank for fast growing transition ecosystems, with a focus on clean power, electrification of transport, data centres and AI
2.    Strategic transition partner for all our clients, enabling investment in innovation and opportunity, across sectors and their value chains 
3.    Bank of choice to catalyse emerging climate tech, from international expansion to first-of-a kind infrastructure projects

Report to the Global Head of Sustainable Finance and Transition Sales, the Director of SF&T Origination and Structuring will be responsible to work with SF&T regional teams, coverage / product / functional partners, and other key stakeholders to lead the origination and structuring of sustainable export finance transactions and coordinate sustainable project finance activities globally.

Accountabilities for Business, Customers and Stakeholders

  • Lead origination and structuring of sustainable HIF transactions
  • Lead coordination of sustainable project finance transactions (execution of sustainable project finance will be responsible by regional SF&T teams)
  • Support regional SF&T originators with the structuring of complex and bespoke financing solutions
  • Create innovative, replicable financing solutions to solve client needs at scale
  • Acting with a level of autonomy in origination, structuring and execution to seek out and pitch for new opportunities with HSBC’s current and prospective clients. Drive engagement with internal and external stakeholders to ensure support and alignment with HSBC’s policies, procedures, and values.
Requisitos

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

Functional Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of the Group and CIB business
  • Demonstrable industry experience of the infrastructure finance market. 
  • Proven track record in leading domestic and cross-border infrastructure advisory and financing transactions
  • In-depth understanding of financial markets, including credit analysis, rating methodologies, and credit metrics
  • Solid knowledge and experience of sustainability or sustainable finance 
  • Vision, capability and energy to devise and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Strong business communication and analytical skills, including in respect of credit and reputational risk.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to partner with key stakeholders and senior management. 
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, adapting to changing priorities, working in a dynamic environment and getting things done. 
  • Proven track record of flexibility and resourcefulness in fluid environments of constantly evolving priorities, challenging bureaucracy and staying true to the values and strategy of the Group
     

Under the New Labour Law, only fixed term contracts shall be available to all employees of HSBC UAE (except DIFC and ADGM employees) – hence in line with the term of work permit, a 4 years’ contract would be issued.

Experience:

  • Broad and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within one discipline

Business / Commercial knowledge:

  • The role requires a comprehensive understanding of several value units / products / regions / legal entities, alongside an advanced understanding of the industry and the relative positioning of the HSBC's products and services.

Leadership

  • Management responsibilities for a sizeable team of professionals (including responsibility for budget, and planning)

Problem Solving

  • Covers a wide range of activities that require evaluative judgements based on the analysis of factual and qualitative information in complicated perhaps novel situations

  • Seeks ways of improving and adapting day to day departmental activities and will actively seek authority to implement them.
