Your career opportunity
Join the Global Design Team within International Wealth and Premier Banking (IWPB) at HSBC, where we create best-in-class experiences that make a difference in customers' lives. We align business strategy with user needs across channels and touchpoints to shape the future experience for affluent customers across the globe.
The Design System team at HSBC powers scalable, intelligent, and consistent digital experiences across global markets. As part of our mission to modernize design operations, we’re embedding automation, AI, and next-generation tooling to transform how design is done at scale.
As Creative Technology Lead, you will set the strategic direction for design technology and AI efficiency—shaping how global teams use tooling, automation, and system architecture to deliver faster, better outcomes. You’ll lead cross-functional initiatives that blend design, engineering, and AI innovation, ensuring our design system and processes remain world-class, adaptive, and future-ready.

What you’ll do
    • Define and lead the roadmap for creative technology, intelligent tooling, and automation within the global design system ecosystem—advancing scalability, consistency, and delivery speed as well as drive the strategic adoption of GenAI, code generation, and advanced design tools that improve workflow efficiency, design quality, and product impact.
    • Lead the exploration and integration of AI-powered solutions to streamline effort, reduce friction, and boost creative and operational output across the design lifecycle as well as prototype and pilot intelligent systems that:  Accelerate design tasks (e.g., wireframing, UX writing, multilingual content generation), Translate research into structured, actionable insights, summarize feedback from user testing and workshops Generate service design blueprints and experience maps, Rapidly test design hypotheses and iterate at speed.
    • Oversee the development of advanced tooling (e.g., Figma plugins, design token infrastructure, design-to-code platforms like GenUI) with robust alignment to platform, security, and brand standards.
    • Shape the system architecture and DevOps integration strategy, embedding design tooling into scalable pipelines that support design and engineering collaboration as well as collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, design ops, data/AI, and governance teams to deliver and embed innovations that stick—ensuring adoption across global markets.
    • Establish clear metrics, governance frameworks, and adoption plans to track and scale the impact of AI and automation across workflows and translate strategic design system and business goals into measurable improvements in tooling performance, usability, and experience quality.
    • Promote a culture of experimentation, ethical AI use, and continuous improvement, staying ahead of trends in design technology, generative tools, and intelligent automation.
    • Represent design technology at senior forums, influencing product, platform, and engineering strategies through a future-focused creative tech lens and promote and enable an inclusive and diverse culture that respects and values differences.
    • Work collaboratively to ensure the team leverages each other’s areas of strength and development as well as build trusted relationships with key stakeholders, leading to stronger collaboration within the project.

What you need to have to succeed in this role
    • Experience working across design systems, creative technology, UX engineering, or design operations—ideally within large-scale or regulated environments with a proven track record of driving innovation through AI, automation, or tooling, with clear business or user impact.
    • Deep fluency with Figma (including plugin architecture, tokens, and component systems), and working knowledge of front-end technologies such as TypeScript, Python, and APIs.
    • Demonstrated ability to prototype and implement AI/ML-powered tools, particularly in design, content creation, or research workflows.
    • Strong grasp of design-to-code processes, DevOps integration, and platform architecture—able to translate vision into scalable systems.
    • Experience introducing new tools, standards, or frameworks across global teams, with the ability to guide adoption and behavioural change.
    • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to align senior stakeholders, product leaders, and technical teams.
    • Comfort operating in complex, matrixed organizations—balancing near-term delivery with long-term system evolution.
    • High degree of curiosity, initiative, and future focus—always scanning for new possibilities to improve how design happens at scale as well as a principled and thoughtful approach to ethical AI use, experimentation, and inclusive tooling practices.
