Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a sub function of Group Risk and Compliance. Its purpose is to make sure HSBC understands and effectively controls its risk position, through end-to-end oversight of processes, risks, and controls and by robust stewardship of the bank's risk appetite, to comply with risk, business and regulatory priorities.  It seeks to strengthen the risk culture across the organisation through the application of effective policies and frameworks that drive consistent risk management practices across our businesses and functions at global, regional and market level, to protect and deliver good outcomes for our customers and the organisation, whilst supporting business growth.

The role holder has responsibility to provide oversight, guidance and delivery of capital management, behaviours and framework to ensure that the bank continues to effectively manage its risks and assess its capital requirements.

What you’ll do
    • Input on the management of HSBC's Operational Risk capital, pillar 1/ 2 and ICAAP for submission to the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA)
    • Support the delivery of the PRA and European Banking Association (EBA) global stress testing exercises. Execute local stress tests.
    • Contribute to and deliver risk quantitative measurement capabilities for HSBC, including risk appetite, loss forecasting, scenario analysis, capital modeling, stress testing and capital allocation.  
    • Monitor consolidated risk positions for HBEU and provide regular reports to senior leadership and the Board.
    • Oversee and deliver external regulatory loss reporting submissions, such as Common Reporting (COREP) and Quantitative Impact Study (QIS) to assess completeness and accuracy.
    • Support behavioural risk management through the Notable events/ Reportable incidents process, Whistleblowing, Material Risk Taker (MRT) qualitative guidance and Executive Scorecard processes.
    • Contribute to the design and implementation of the Global Risk Management considering evolving regulatory requirements, local market conditions, and organisational strategies.
    • Establish and maintain ERM risk policies, procedures, and standards that guide risk management behaviours across HBEU.
    • Support training and capability uplift for the First and Second Line of Defence teams to ensure robust understanding of all risk specialist areas.
    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders locally and develop and maintain effective relationships with wider 1st and 2nd Line teams
    • Successfully navigate and strengthen the relationship between non-financial risk and senior stakeholders across the three lines of defence locally
    • Share best practices, and work on improvements to ERM specialist areas.
    • Ensure local governance relating to capital management and behavioural risk framework is managed effectively locally
    • Monitor compliance with the RMF and ensure effective co-ordination locally 
    • Ensuring Reportable Incident and Notable event investigations are conducted thoroughly, sensitively, accurately and in a timely manner

What you need to have to succeed in this role
    • Strong level of risk management knowledge, including strong understanding of the RMF
    • Strong level of business knowledge and experience in at least one ERM specialist areas, preferably capital and stress testing.  
    • Excellent analytical skills; comfortable interrogating data and able to review and evaluate a wide array of materials leading to key insights and robust evidence that form the basis of a logical judgment / set of recommendation.
    • Experience in dealing with complex problems by adopting a pragmatic approach, identifying, and prioritising core requirements and translating them into a clear set of required activities that address the problem and achieve the desired outcomes.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to enage, challenge and influence stakeholders at all levels and develop compelling and logically structured presentations and papers that are thoughtful, clear and concise.
    • You may also be responsible for local entity management for other team members.
