We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to take on the role of Head of Finance of HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad.

Role Purpose

The jobholder will report functionally to the Chief Financial Officer of HSBC Bank Malaysia (HBMY) and by entity to the Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad (HBMS). The jobholder is primarily responsible for planning, directing and controlling activities of the Finance function impacting HBMS, covering financial, management and regulatory reporting, business finance, treasury product control, taxation, asset, liability and capital management.

The regulatory environment and local financial landscape, including Islamic Banking, in Malaysia is rapidly evolving and demanding. Against this backdrop the role holder has to play an important role in navigating policy change with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that HBMS continues to grow in a sustainable manner. 

In addition, the Head of Finance HBMS will also be the coordinator of enterprise-wide stress tests of HSBC Malaysia (i.e. for HBMY and HBMS).

Principal Responsibilities

  • Full spectrum management of the Finance function including Accounting, Regulatory Reporting, Product Control, Tax, Business Finance and Asset, Liability and Capital Management for HBMS;
  • Execute and mobilise robust and stringent review of current practice and procedures, identify and implement initiatives for improved and effective control over the reporting processes and adherence to Group/Regional/country standards and policies for HBMS;
  • Provide strategic decision support to CEO and the heads of businesses and heads of functions within Group Infrastructure to deliver HBMS’s results against the Financial Resource Plan (FRP);
  • Collaborate with HBMS business leadership team to drive business strategies by providing insight to the competitive landscape and challenge the business when required. This includes robust engagement and support through various senior governance committees across the business;
  • Support HBMS's implementation of sustainability disclosures;
  • Maintain HBMS’s external thought leadership position on accounting, tax and significant regulatory change. Also support the advocacy of Islamic banking in the industry and HSBC Group;
  • Coordinate the submission of enterprise-wide stress tests of HBMY and HBMS to BNM at least semi-annually, including coordinating the data submission by Business/Risks, and assume the secretariat role of working group.
  • Lead the development of technical and business knowledge and capabilities of the team. Continually assess and benchmark these capabilities and service standards to the best in class.
  • Inspire, motivate, lead and coach a team of diverse, aspiring and energetic professionals in Global Finance team including plan and promote service culture, teamwork, staff development and training.
Requisitos
  • A qualified accountant with membership with the Malaysia Institute of Accountant is strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated working ability and knowledge of economic and accounting principles, the financial markets, financial services and the analysis and reporting of financial data;
  • Resilient and adaptable professional with a minimum of 8 years of international financial experience in a leadership position;
  • Knowledge in accounting treatment of Islamic Products is preferred;
    Hands-on experience in all finance functions with particular expertise required in Asset, Liability and Capital Management, Tax and Financial Analytics;
  • Good level of business acumen and commercial awareness, including economic, cultural, procedural and regulatory issues;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interact, influence, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ability to work with new and changing requirements from different regulators and be able to analyse these requirements and their impacts to HBMS and HSBC Malaysia

The chosen candidate for this role will be required to undergo enhanced vetting. Subject to local laws, this will require the individual to satisfactorily pass a series of additional checks as part of the recruitment process and on an ongoing basis, if appointed to the role.
