We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Head of Regulatory Compliance, HSBC Korea

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  •  The Head of Regulatory Compliance Korea is the accountable for ensuring that HSBC’s operations in Korea are effective in identifying, managing and mitigating Regulatory Compliance risks.
  • Leads and directs the stewardship of the Regulatory Compliance sub-function in Korea, as a partner to the business, supporting growth aspirations whilst retaining the appropriate risk management challenge to achieve the Group’s strategic goals.
  • Oversees the provision of advisory services to Korea to support a clear understanding of Regulatory Compliance risk exposure with respect to clients, transactions and products.
  • Strengthens the Global Businesses’ knowledge of Risk and Compliance management by incorporating Risk and Compliance considerations in all activities undertaken to protect and enable the business’ activities through a robust risk management understanding.
  • Oversees the management of the relationship with relevant regulators in Korea.
  • Develops, monitors, and communicates Regulatory Compliance strategy and policies throughout Korea, leading strategic direction for setting industry standards for Regulatory Compliance, its challenges and opportunities to ensure that Korea satisfies the requirements of key regulators.
  • Responsible for second line governance of Regulatory Compliance risk exposures, providing analysis, reporting and governance that is independent of the first line of defense, thereby maintaining an objective assessment of risk exposure.
  • Assists the senior management of Korea, the leadership of the Regulatory Compliance function, and other colleagues on all relevant material Regulatory Compliance related matters.
  • Supports in setting key functional targets (e.g. risk appetite) within Group/Regional guardrails.
  • Leads the Regulatory Compliance team, establishing guiding principles and strategic operational objectives, owning budgeting, and managing costs, headcount, and resources to ensure that the teams are fit for purpose and considered to be high quality and that the delivery of its critical services to the Group is both effective and cost-efficient.
  • Fosters a strong risk and control and compliance culture, including ensuring adequate management focus and demonstrative “tone from the top” and proactive risk management.
  • Acts in accordance with HSBC’s purpose and values, being cognizant of all applicable local legal, fiscal, regulatory and shareholder requirements as they relate to the Regulatory Compliance sub- function and the operations of HSBC.
  • Champions a culture that prioritises the fair treatment of all customers, including particular attention to those who are vulnerable or have changing needs, whilst also ensuring that governance, processes and systems support staff to meet the needs of all customers.
  • Works with and supports LoB risk stewards, to maintain an effective control framework and to reasonably thank ensure compliance with all relevant external laws & regulations, internal codes and policies and good market practices
        Leadership & Teamwork 
  • Creates a high performing and diverse senior leadership team, underpinned by robust succession planning and development of leadership capabilities.
  • Works collaboratively with other senior executives in Line of Businesses and Group Infrastructure in the market to define strategies, plans and priorities for Risk and Compliance in support of the Group strategy.
  • Ensures effective relationships with key stakeholders both within and external to HSBC, increasing connectivity and originating new productive relationships.
  • Oversees the effective development and deployment of human resources in the Regulatory Compliance sub-function, including effective succession planning, talent management, resourcing and performance management.
  • Implements the Group’s performance management and reward strategies, promoting sustainable business growth and allocating rewards that align to responsible risk and compliance management


Postulación

  • Significant compliance experience as a regulator or a senior compliance manager within a global firm, in the financial services industry.
  • Successful track record in strategic leadership and influencing is essential, in particular the application of this skill in areas outside their direct span of control.
  • Significant knowledge of a compliance risk framework and experience in its execution, together with knowledge of business and products.
  • A background or deep understanding of operational risk is also highly desirable.
  • Track record of resilience and confident challenge when dealing with senior stakeholders to influence change without direct responsibility for resources or budget.
  • Experience of dealing with regulatory matters and confident interaction with Regulators.
  • Experience of creating, leading and motivating a team.
  • Experience of working within a matrixed environment preferred.
  • Significant leadership experience and an experienced strategic thinker.
