We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of Resilience.

Our technology teams work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely.

WPB Technology has experienced significant growth and change within recent years which drove the need for us to undertake a strategic review of our current Target Operating Model and Organizational Leadership Structure. The creation of the defined Value Streams (VS) and Sub-Value Streams (SVS) drives joint delivery of business outcomes through deep partnership between Business, Markets, Technology and Digital.

Principal responsibilities

The Head of Resilience works with the Value Streams providing Site Reliability Engineering leadership, vision and direction as part of a global Production Integrity and SRE team.

Will be accountable for:

  • working with teams to develop ways of working,
  • helping establish SLO’s and associated monitoring,
  • improve monitoring and alerting,
  • increasing automation,
  • ensure toolset adoption and coverage,
  • reducing toil,
  • improving resilience,
  • developing resource capability and SRE mindset

An important component of the role will be to manage delivery of impactful change through: 

  • identifying, analyzing data to understand drivers for work and SRE associated opportunities.
  • engaging and influencing stakeholders, working with appropriate team members to clarify opportunities, agree approach and delivery.
  • establishing and leading community of practices to deliver outcomes improving customer experience, team efficiency and outcomes for team members.

 What you will be doing:

You will be leading the work on Site Reliability Engineering aspects, working along with the digital development & operations teams (across different Business lines / Value Streams), to setup and manage the Production estate for our applications (across Mobile App, APIs, backend systems).

The Role provides the opportunities.

  • Ensure proper business continuity through optimal capacity management of all systems involved in user journeys end to end.
  • To ensure disaster recovery procedures are in place, regularly tested & up-to-date
  • Set up the Tooling and Automation to ensuring monitoring & alerting setup is in place to flag off customer impacting issues in timely manner
  • Investigate complicated production issues impacting customers globally with visibility of systems across the bank
  • To ensure no major security vulnerabilities are exposed in applications deployed customer and staff facing
  • Ensure incident management procedures are best in class, and our digital app teams are best placed to follow all SLAs
  • Lead through in the crisis management calls for any major incidents
  • Explore on avenues to improve the overall service recovery and stability of our Applications
  • Automate the monitoring using Python, Groovy etc – for setups like Real User Monitoring (RUM), Synthetic Monitoring, etc
  • Ensure our digital teams are equipped to abide by all the defect, change, release, version, service, and problem management procedures in place in HSBC, including ensuring to work with relevant stakeholders for any required modifications in them.
  • To ensure best use of On-prem and On-cloud resources for the optimal costs charged back to our digital teams.
  • Ensure all these checks can be either automated fully, or partially with proper non-failing process to cover the manual part.
  • Address any performance concerns in Applications, and in Infrastructure - to ensure proper resilience is in place – to serve our customers even on special spiked usage days
  • Increase the knowledge, technical expertise & up-skill people in defect, change, release, version, service, and problem management aspects, to foster strong DevOps culture
  • Collaborate with senior technical leaders to contribute to form strategies, defining roadmaps, to address any recurring service management issues
Requisitos

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Outstanding Technology leader experienced in driving strategic change in a matrix environment.
  • 18+ years of Relevant and strong background in transformation, risk, good judgment, process and delivery focused.
  • Prior experience in Production Support, DevOps , SRE, Change, Release, Problem, Service Management.
  • Strong knowledge on REST APIs using JSON, Java Web Services on SOAP, OAuth Integrations, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Sound Cloud Knowledge (preferably on AWS, in services like EKS, Lambdas, API Gateway, Load Balancers, SQS, SNS, CloudWatch, EC2, RDS)
  • Hands on experience on Application performance management, and monitoring tools like AppDynamics, Splunk, DataDog, CloudWatch, X-ray, ZipKin, etc. (Any experience in reporting, visualisation tools e.g. QlikSense, Dashboards in AppDynamics, Splunk will be an added advantage.)
  • Experience in using Agile methodologies, Scrum/Kanban, JIRA & Confluence or equivalent portals.
  • Good knowledge Jenkins, Groovy for CI/CD, Python, Shell Scripting for Automation.
  • Hands on experience on Version Control systems like GitHub, and Tagging, Releases setup
  • Good analytical, Problem-Solving, triaging skills, troubleshooting, communication, articulation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence stakeholders convincingly Strong leadership, stakeholder and people management skills, able to navigate across structures in complex business organization with well-considered & rationalised logic
  • Proven ability to lead and work with multi-disciplinary and diverse teams using SRE DevOps tools and work environments.
  • Effective communication, influencing and negotiation and strong stakeholder management skills at all levels and across diverse, global teams and key stakeholders across functions and regions
