We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Head of Underwriting, WPB, Hong Kong. 

Role Purpose

  • Reporting to the Head of Fraud & Credit Service, the jobholder is responsible for leading and managing the Underwriting operation to support business growth ambition with calculated risk.  With a growth ambition to double the credit card portfolio and increase the loss absorption rate of the loan portfolio by taking more risk to improve portfolio profitability. The Underwriting team plays a vital role to support a balanced and healthy growth
  • Maintaining smooth operations of the lending functions including mortgages, wealth lending, cards and personal loans.  The jobholder is responsible for ensuring all operations functions perform to required service levels and are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner to facilitate business growth and profitability, specifically for the secured and unsecured lending products. The team is also expected to provide immediate feedback to credit policies when anomaly are detected during underwriting.
  • Drive transformational improvements and service excellence culture across all operational processes is also a key mandate for the jobholder, including leading and implementing process reengineering projects to eliminate manual processing and improve staff productivity.  Target to improve straight through rate (STP) to improve customer experience over the origination journey. Also driving scale-ability and ensuring that costs and headcount opportunities are identified, realized and delivered as part of the overall business strategy
  • The jobholder is responsible for maintaining and continuously raising the control standards across the end-to-end customer journeys of all relevant products. Especially underwriting related operations and procedures.  In particular, the jobholder is required to pay dedicated due diligence to Banking (Exposure Limits) Rules (BELR) related compliance and rules. 
  • This role demands strong and a proactive approach to developing and executing optimal risk management strategies for AMH WPB, including credit risk, operation risk, legal risk, fraud risk, financial crime risk, non-financial risk and regulatory risk.
  • The role holder will have direct and indirect people management responsibilities and be required to evidence strong leadership capabilities. The role also require to interact with multiple internal/ external stakeholders including Global/ Region FCS, Credit Risk, Legal, Fraud Risk stewards, Regulators on prudential measures, Mortgage Insurance Companies, Valuation Firm, Credit Bureaus etc. 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Strong business understanding of secured and unsecured lending regulations and guidelines and internal control standards.
  • Experience of managing staff resources in senior roles to achieve objectives using appropriate communication delegation and planning skills
  • Expert in internal and external stakeholders’ management and capable of meeting business demands while optimizing risk appetites.  
  • The jobholder is responsible for maintaining and continuously raising the control standards across the end-to-end customer journeys of all relevant products. Especially underwriting related operations and procedures.  In particular, the jobholder is required to pay dedicated due diligence to Banking (Exposure Limits) Rules (BELR) related compliance and rules.  
  • Require broad experience within the banking and financial sector with specific retails and business banking experience and acknowledge in credit lending of mortgage, wealth lending, cards and unsecured loans products.
  • Lead the Transformation Agenda for Secured and Unsecured Lending credit control operations. Work with the Global, Regional and Local Business and Risk Teams to proactively drive and deliver milestones.

Education and Relevant Experience

  • University graduate
  • Extensive years of experience
  • The jobholder should possess credit control and operations knowledge, preferably with solid experience in people management
