We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering Specialist
Within the CIB department at HSBC, the SSv Infra provides support and estate management services for all the Securities Services IT applications. The current team has strong infrastructure skills and experience across our globally distributed SMEs spread across (Canada, U.K, India and HongKong).
We are continuously looking to improve our capabilities and our support model, and in order to do that, we introduced the SSv Infra Rundeck managed service over the last three years which has greatly assisted application teams in automating BAU infra tasks including service Role Swaps, providing ease of Infrastructure management, reducing privileged access requests, operational risks, process and manpower requirements, and increasing speed of delivery.
The Infra engineering SMEs have learned new development skills across various tools to achieve this. To continue supporting our automation tools we need more individuals having a depth of development knowledge and experience within the team to ensure we can create, deliver and own a service which is scalable, supportable and meets all the required Audit and Security standards which have recently surfaced.
To maintain and continue the operations of our automation (Rundeck) service, we need an individual for the role of Infrastructure Development Lead who should possess a strong blend of development tooling experience (Python, Ansible, Jenkins, Github, Grafana, Databases etc.) and methodologies, coupled with an awareness of infrastructure technologies and ITIL processes. The role is not only required in order to ensure the quality of our short term challenges and delivery, but also to mentor and future proof our engineering pool into genuine “DevOps” resources.
In this role, you will:
- Support the SSv Infra automation initiatives and ensure appropriate level of support is provided to resolve automation tool issues.
- Understand and apply standards, best practices to ensure compliance and consistently maintain quality in infrastructure automation deliverables.
- Ensure high availability of infrastructure automation tools & services.
- Apply performance monitoring / tuning methodologies to keep the automation infrastructure robust and always available to the users.
- Participate in Crisis calls & PIRs as applicable for issues related to automation tools.
- Own the resolution of problems, demonstrate analytical and problem management skills to drive the resolution and prevent recurrence.
- Understanding the various security guidelines, policies and audit expectations and address any related issues within the respective timelines.
- Mentor and guide the team to provide support for the automation tools and services provided by the team.
- Proactively analyze and refine scope for improvement in our automation services.
- Provide reports and management insights with respect to automation tools’ usage, performance and improvement areas.
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Knowledge about automation and CI/CD tools like:
- Rundeck
- Ansible
- Terraform
- Github
- Grafana
- Jenkins
- Puppet
- Secrets Management Tools (HashiVault etc)
- Good knowledge of Development tools and languages like Python, Shell, Powershell, Java, Rust , C, C++, etc
- Understanding of cloud computing frameworks like AWS, GCP, Azure etc.
- Good Knowledge of DevOps/Agile tools & practices like Confluence, JIRA, Scrum & Kanban etc.
- Knowledge of various Infrastructure components like Operating systems (Unix & Windows), Middleware (MQ & WAS) & Databases (Oracle, SQL & PostGreSQL)
- Good knowledge of networking principles.
- Preferably 10+ years of strong development experience.
