Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel - Employment benefits and Incentives.

Principal Responsibilities

In this role you will

  • Manage (as accountable lawyer) an Asia-based caseload, and support lawyers in EBI and other parts of the business within and outside Hong Kong on more complex matters or multijurisdictional projects, including co-ordination of advice and updates
  • Advise Management on proposed courses of action in order to manage legal, financial and reputational risks
  • Provide commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical guidance and support to relevant businesses in a cost-effective manner
  • Evaluate and respond to changes in legal and regulatory requirements as they arise
  • Apply learnings from cases and available data to recommend enhancements and improvements to processes and policies, and partnering with HR to drive necessary change
  • Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with HR, ER and Legal colleagues as well as and business departments
  • Set legal advice in the context of HSBC policy requirements and strategic priorities
  • Prepare and deliver briefings to stakeholders on major issues arising in relevant business areas and major legislative changes in area of expertise. Proactively maintain knowledge of and adhere to HSBC operations and policies
Requisitos

To be successful you will need

  • Qualified Employment Lawyer
  • Chinese language capability
  • Experience of working with financial services clients an advantage, but not essential – although a keen interest in the industry and curiosity to learn more about the multijurisdictional and regulatory environment is a pre-requisite
  • Ability to prioritise, often flexibly against the backdrop of changing facts and stakeholder demands
  • Clear communication and inter-personal skills
  • Developing lateral thinking/problem solving skills
