Role Purpose:
Senior Risk Manager, UAE is responsible for the development, implementation, enhancement, management, monitoring and/or reporting of the enterprise-wide UAE risk governance framework and risk stewardship capability, including the UAE’s regulatory risk stewardship capability. The job holder reports to the UAE CRO and works closely with the UAE Risk team and the Regional Risk & Compliance teams, as well as the UAE businesses and functions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Lead and oversee risk areas where Primary Risk Stewardship responsibilities sit with the UAE Risk team.
• Oversee areas where UAE Risk has Secondary Risk Stewardship responsibilities, ensuring the overall UAE risk stewardship framework remains effective, with due risk reporting and escalations as needed.
• Support the UAE CRO in ensuring that Policies are updated and refreshed as required according to new Regulations and Group policies.
• Oversee, own, steward and/or support Risk based Local Regulatory Reporting.
• Formulate, operationalize, review, support and/or deliver UAE CRO responsibilities and Credit Risk Management Function responsibilities as detailed in the UAE CB Credit Risk Management Standards.
• Formulate, operationalize, review and support the continued embedding of the UAE Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Controls environment, across Financial Risks and Non-Financial Risks.
• Support the oversight of Shariah Risk working closely with the Islamic Finance Control and Assurance teams and the businesses and functions.
• Review and challenge the oversight and approval of UAE outsourcing, both material and non-material outsourcing including AI and cloud.
• Support the UAE CRO with the management of relationships with external stakeholders (e.g. auditors, local regulators, rating agencies).
• Coordinate and prepare papers for submission to various governance forums (e.g. UAE RMM, UAE EXCO, MENAT RMM, Entity Board, etc.).
• Drive, manage and support effective Primary risk stewardship.
• Drive, manage and support effective Secondary risk stewardship.
• Fulfill and embed the responsibilities associated with the Credit Risk Management Function as outlined in the CB UAE Credit Risk Management Regulations & Standards (CRMS).
• Manage and support the Enterprise Risk Governance framework.
• Support the development and deployment of enterprise-wide risk policies as needed.
• Oversee External Regulatory Audits and Internal Audits.
• Ensure robust oversight and timely decision-making, particularly for high risk, time-critical or sensitive issues.
• Ensure the Group is safeguarded against potential reputational, regulatory, or legal damage through the timely and appropriate escalation of risk issues.
• Implement and manage with relevant stakeholders to provide robust and consistent Primary and Secondary Risk Stewardship.
• Implement and manage with relevant stakeholders to provide robust, effective and consistent Risk Governance framework.
• Meet all Regulatory requirements as relevant to the role, including regulatory risk reporting and regulatory risk stewardship.
• Provide enhanced reporting and monitoring of key risks and controls and ensure appropriate management mitigating actions are in place where required.
• Manage relevant Senior Management stakeholders in the businesses and functions.
• Manage Regulatory relationships as needed.
• Support UAE CRO, Regional Risk and Global Risk and other colleagues and contribute to the activity of the team.

• Ensure the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators.
• Support activities related to the preparation for Risk Reviews, Internal Audits and external Regulators/Monitor reviews.
• Formally support actionable risk MI generation and reporting obligations.
• Exercise initiative and judgement, to deliver in accordance with business strategy/operational plans;
• Initiates activities to identify, review and evaluate the risk management of the bank and mitigating actions;
• Exercises the role in accordance with the bank’s operating / employee procedures.
Experience & Qualifications:
• Graduation degree is REQUIRED– to secure a UAE Visa and Work Permit.
• Senior management exposure and risk governance experience.
• Excellent articulation and presentation ability, especially of complex subjects and implications to audiences with varying degrees of familiarity.
• Proven ability to operate across functions in a large bank by building networks and leading and influencing teams that may not be directly managed.
• A comprehensive understanding of risk management and the regulatory environment.
• Proven capacity to identify, assess, manage and mitigate risk.
• Good oral and written communication, including the capacity to articulate often complex and subjective issues to a wide range of stakeholders.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
• Understand and interpret complex business requirements and prioritize competing demands.
• Demonstrated ability to assess risk trends, both internally and externally.
• Ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment and to remain effective under pressure with exceptional drive and commitment.
• Commercially minded and customer focused.
• Ability to highlight problems but more importantly offer solutions, and drive through their execution in a collective environment with strong project management skills.
• Strong analytical skills to grasp, interpret and distil diverse and complex sources of information.
