Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a sub function of Group Risk and Compliance.Its purpose is to make sure HSBC understands and effectively controls its non-financial risk position, through end-to-end oversight of processes, risks, and controls and by robust stewardship of the bank's risk appetite to comply with risk, business and regulatory priorities. It seeks to strengthen the risk culture across the organization through the application of effective policies and frameworks that drive consistent risk management practices across our businesses and functions at global, regional and market level. Group Reputational, Climate & Sustainability Risk (GRCSR) is part of Enterprise Risk Management and is focused on managing reputational, climate, sustainability and geopolitical risks across the HSBC Group. The team functions at a global and regional level undertaking Second Line of Defense oversight of these risk types
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Manager, Geopolitical Risk.
Principal Responsibilities
In this role you will
- Provide strong review and oversight of geopolitical risk including support to Global Businesses and Global Functions in relation to analysis of geopolitical risk as a driver of other risk types
- Provide geopolitical advice on key geopolitical events and the impacts on HSBC to seniors within the Group and the Asia Pacific business.
- Identify key geopolitical risk events and secular geopolitical trends and produce high quality strategic analysis on what those mean for HSBC Group and the Asia Pacific business.
- Report upon and escalate key emerging risks, providing oversight of issues and events. Facilitate Group-wide information sharing on geopolitical risk issues.
- Contribute to external disclosures across the Group. Develop close working relationships with a broad set of key internal stakeholders at all levels across the Group.
- Support the development of a Group-wide approach to geopolitical risk management. Identify, document and escalate gaps within our Risk Management Framework, in respect to how geopolitical risk is managed.
- Support the embedding of the geopolitical risk management approach throughout the 1LOD and 2LOD – including considering how the approach cascades throughout HSBC.
- Facilitate Group-wide information sharing on geopolitical risk and produce high quality reports and papers for relevant senior management and committees.
To be successful you will need
- A comprehensive and proven understanding geopolitical risk
- Strong analytical skills to grasp, consolidate and distil diverse and complex sources and ranges of information.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to articulate often complex, controversial, and subjective issues to a wide range of senior stakeholders.
- Proven understanding and experience of working with / leading key projects across 1LOD and 2LOD.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with proven experience in dealing across Risk Function, Group Infrastructure and Business lines.
- The ability to effectively manage multiple workstreams and deliverables, working with and reporting to Senior Management.
- High degree of gravitas, credibility, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Sets the pace and operating rhythm, driving a culture of achievement and ensures pace by identifying and removing barriers to project success. Promotes pace and energy within the team and leads by example
