We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Archivist, Asia Pacific.

Principal Responsibilities

In this role you will

  • Growing and improving access to the archive collections. This involves BAU work on collecting, appraising, ingesting, cataloguing, preventative preservation, tracking and digitising records to ensure they are accessible in perpetuity
  • Planning and delivering specialist collections management programmes as directed (e.g. cataloguing improvement work, scanning projects). Supporting the annual collecting plans (e.g. taking responsibility for specific departments, carrying out manual collection of online content)
  • Conducting detailed historical research to respond to enquiries from academics, genealogists, journalists, local historians, special interest groups etc. This also includes retrieving records and supervising visiting researchers
  • Deliver tours and history presentations at the HK Archive Centre for employees, clients and other stakeholders
  • Supporting the heritage and engagement programme (e.g. History website, social media content, tours and presentations, employee induction courses, temporary exhibitions, anniversary celebrations). This involves research, content development, writing and public speaking – based on in-depth knowledge of the bank’s history and archives
  • Implements policies and procedures that increase accessibility to the bank’s historical archives (e.g. catalogues records in the Global Digital Archive system in accordance with HSBC’s cataloguing standards)
  • Provides specialist expertise to permanently preserve physical archives and research and historical knowledge
  • Develops strong relationships with other colleagues in Archives and the Brand function in order to facilitate execution of Archives activities and keeps up-to-date with latest professional research and techniques, in order to execute work to world-class standards
Requirements

To be successful you will need

  • Qualification in Archives Management (or related discipline) and/or proven track record of implementing collections management programmes in the heritage sector
  • Knowledge of latest trends and best practice in the archives and heritage sector
  • Strong cataloguing experience following archival standards such as ISAD(G) and experience working with digital archives
  • Knowledge of Preservica software is an advantage
  • Research and storytelling skills with some experience of curating history topics
  • Strong interpersonal, project management skills and good presentation skills
