The global HSBC Infrastructure Finance (“HIF”) team, comprised of Infrastructure Finance and Export Finance, provides a full suite of financing solutions to corporates, financial sponsors, financial institutions and governments in a variety of sectors, including Infrastructure, Transport, Logistics, Renewables and Power & Utilities. 
The team provides a central point for clients to access product agnostic advice on financing, capital structure and structured debt capital markets, as well as origination and execution of infrastructure, project and export finance lending mandates. HIF plays a critical role in financing the energy transition for our clients and we have pivoted our business model, aiming to increase our provision of financing to key energy transition sub-sectors, to monetise the transition and deliver incremental revenue for the bank. HIF consists of over 160 employees located in 14 countries with key hubs in London, Paris, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and New York. 
The Export Finance team supports the cross-border trade of capital goods and services by HSBC’s clients using government support programs. These programs are administered by Export Credit Agencies (ECAs), to credit enhance the financing provided to the borrowers. Export Finance is a global team with presence in London, Paris, Dubai, Hong Kong, New York, along with a number of other locations in Europe and Asia. The business is one of the world’s leading arrangers of ECA supported debt with a long-established track-record.  

The Export Finance team works across product, region, country and sectors to arrange medium and long-term financing for clients in the public and private sectors purchasing capital goods and services or investing in a particular region. Export Finance can cover inter alia infrastructure development, manufacturing equipment, marine assets, aircraft, power generation equipment, real estate and a host of other goods and services. Export Finance also features regularly in the financing of limited-recourse projects, as an additional source of funding alongside commercial bank loans.

What you will do: 

The Associate /GCB 5 would join HIF - Export Finance Continental Europe team in Paris providing support across all sub-sectors in the origination and execution of export finance transactions within Continental Europe and globally and managing ECA relationships with French and Belgian ECAs in particular.

In this role you will:

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake a broad spectrum of responsibilities and tasks supporting the origination and execution of Export Finance transactions in Paris, in cooperation with the global team, from initial client discussions through to loan disbursements. Key responsibilities would include: 

  • Creating marketing materials, such as pitch books, responses to requests for proposals and teaser documents. 
  • Arranging and participating in client meetings 
  • Managing internal approvals processes, including conflicts clearances, business approvals, calculation of transaction profitability, capital allocation approvals, credit approvals, environmental clearances, etc., as relevant 
  • Support seniors in setting go-to market strategy, market scoping and identifying potential opportunities 
  • Provide support in structuring an ECA-backed financing and analyzing the transaction’s risk allocation 
  • Providing support in execution of mandated transactions, including assisting with documentation aspects of Export Finance transactions and review of transaction due diligence materials 
  • Providing support with ongoing administration of the existing portfolio, when such is relevant for the client-facing team, as well as with management information requirements 
  • Delivering fair outcomes for our customers and ensuring own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets 
  • Understanding HSBC’s strategy as a global universal bank and its client centric approach; this will include knowledge of how the business is structured and organized, engaging effectively with colleagues across businesses and products, and working collaboratively in a global context 
  • Taking responsibility for supervising the Analysts and Graduates to ensure their ongoing development 
  • Provide support including teach-ins for front, middle and back office / internal stakeholders on ECA backed financing
Conditions

You should apply if you have: 

  • Proficient in English – spoken and written (business level). French intermediary skills will be preferred 
  • The individual must be a self-starter, with sufficient motivation to manage his/her own deadlines and deliverables in a proactive manner 
  • Have demonstrable understanding of banking and key financing/loan products 
  • Experience in managing and coordinating work streams for a financing/transaction 
  • Some experience of executing ECA backed transactions is helpful, but not essential 
  • High levels of motivation and strong work ethic underpinned by enthusiasm to learn about the ECA financing product 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to multitask, schedule time effectively and digest and convey complex information in an understandable and succinct manner 
  • Motivated to advance within the team/business area 
  • Proficient user of MS Office applications (specifically, MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Excel – extensive experience with MS PowerPoint and at least some modelling experience in MS Excel will be a plus) 
  • Understanding of core credit analysis and credit metrics 
  • Ability to review and understand (and summarize, where necessary) key due diligence elements (commercial, environmental, etc.) as well as the underlying legal documentation required for loan facilities 
  • Understanding of HSBC internal tools and systems such as CME, ORC, Navigator, etc. is preferred.
