Global regulators have an increasing expectation that firms have adequate systems and controls to conduct surveillance against, among others, market abuse offences such as Insider Dealing, Market Manipulation and Dissemination. 
Offshore Surveillance teams support compliance officers across all business lines in carrying out key compliance monitoring, surveillance and support activities. The team (E/Voice-Communications Surveillance) will support onshore Compliance offices and the various businesses Globally. The purpose is to undertake surveillance in a timely manner thus ensuring compliance (market abuse, breach of internal policies, suitability, best execution, etc.) with applicable regulations and policies. Overall, the incumbent will provide guidance / supervision and accountability for the day-to-day offshore activities.


What you’ll do
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and HSBC Group Standards by reviewing alerts, investigating potential issues, escalating breaches, and documenting resolutions.
• Assist in the growth of Surveillance services across Global Business Lines and coordinate effectively with country compliance teams and onshore partners.
• Oversee, mentor, and provide guidance to L1 Analysts, distribute workloads, organize training sessions, and act as an SME and quality checker.
• Maintain and analyze statistics, produce in-depth management information, trend analysis, and narrative reports for stakeholders and escalation purposes.
• Implement best practices, contribute to process improvement initiatives, and generate innovative ideas for enhancing service delivery.
• Monitor workload trends, ensure adherence to SLAs, escalate risks of breaches, and flag potential operational risks to Management.
• Participate in relationship management meetings, lead update calls with SMEs and Business Partners, and ensure alignment with onshore guidance.
• Document process updates, SME feedback, and market trends for team education and continuous improvement.

What you need to have to succeed in this role
• Proficiency in English is essential, with knowledge of other European languages being an advantage.
• Degree-level education and prior experience in financial services, preferably with compliance or surveillance background.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to learn new technologies; knowledge of Electronic/Audio or Trade Surveillance tools; ability to use macros for solving non-standard problems.
• Strong analytical skills with a good eye for detail and the ability to dissect key information.
• Excellent time management, task prioritization, and the ability to work under pressure and tight timelines.
• Ability to support decisions with sound reasoning, communicate clearly, and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Understanding of financial markets, particularly financial market regulation.
• Preferred Skills: Project management experience and experience in training or coaching.
