Head of IWPB Unsecured Credit Risk, UAE

Role Purpose:
 
UAE is a key market for IWPB and is being prioritized for investment and rapid growth. UAE IWPB business is going through a rapid transformation of its unsecured lending capabilities. 
Effective risk management demands continuous and extensive monitoring of portfolio performance and corrective actions addressing of issues as any delay translate directly into financial losses for the organization. This requires advanced analytical to make optimal and intelligent credit decisions, and active account management strategies to ensure quality is not compromised for growth.
UAE is a unique market from a demographic standpoint, with a 90%+ proportion of expatriates in the population, and a history of instability in credit performance due to the impact of economic cycles. The role holder has to continually monitor market trends and respond very quickly to address both opportunities as well as emerging threats.

Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Leads, promotes and executes analytical techniques to ensure optimal portfolio growth and performance in terms of credit risk. This is to be achieved by facilitating and supporting the development, maintenance and monitoring of all scorecards and growth strategies to ensure sound credit decisions.
•    Interprets portfolio management analytics to ensure credit risks are within plan for UAE credit cards and personal loans and in line with IWPB RAS. 
•    Ensure the return profile for Credit Cards and Personal Loans is in line with agreed performance/ profitability benchmarks and all growth strategies have appropriate returns from CoRWA/ RoTE perspective.  
•    Support the developments of UAE IWPB Business growth strategy for credit cards and personal loans, and assist the business to operate within the established bounds.
•    Develop analytical strategies to embed risk management techniques and a test and control environment.
•    Lead co-ordination, communication between relevant CoE’s, Regional/ Group Risk hub, and direct GAC (Group Analytical Centre) regarding all analytical initiatives.
•    Ensures highest quality communication between all parties related to all analytical activities, including between Group Risk and Regional IWPB Risk team.
•    Budget management of GAC (8+ FTE) 
•    Owner/ Oversight of all UAE unsecured lending related Central Bank analytical requirements.
•    Fulfill the responsibilities associated with the Credit Risk Management function as outlined in the UAE Credit Risk Management Regulations & Standards (CRMS)
•    Continues to enhance and improve relationships and clear communication with all customers, globally.  
•    Improve customer experience for external customers when dealing with HSBC, with a bias towards correct, timely, credit decisions.
•    Drive and lead regular meetings with GAC and business to enhance internal communication and understand business expectation.
•    Owner of all analytical requirements for UAE Central Bank for unsecured lending risk management 
•    Facilitates regular, timely personal assessments, development plans, objectives and up to date job description.
•    Participates in team learning, development and best practice transfer.
•    Actively involved with all appropriate Risk CoE’s.
•    Take end-to-end responsibility for project planning, execution, research, data analysis and statistical modeling for the UAE IWPB Risk with GAC.
•    Participate in Group CoE initiatives expanding personal and GAC expertise and other relevant forums to contribute and acquire best practice knowledge for the team.
•    Adheres strictly to all compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC’s and regulatory standards, policies and practices.
•    Continuous monitoring of risk strategies to ensure they are maintained within the agreed operational standards and regulatory/audit requirements.

Requirements

Experience & Qualifications: 
•    Graduation degree is REQUIRED– to secure a UAE Visa and Work Permit. 
•    A degree in statistics, mathematics or in other programs with significant mathematical components.
•    At least 8 years of experience in credit risk management of unsecured products, in a bank or financial services organization
•    Ability to drive analysis and bring out key insights and actions
•    A sound understanding of the data, products, systems and processes with respect to Retail Credit Risk management with a specific focus on Credit Cards and Personal Loans. Deep knowledge of credit bureau usage.
•    Proficient with the use of technology to drive effective decisions and customer experience improvements
•    Strong planning, organizational, lateral thinking, time management and communications skills.
•    Well-developed interpersonal, organizational, negotiation, problem-solving and verbal and written communication skills. Excellent presentation skills.
•    Ability to lead, manage and coach teams of analysts from a remote site.
