What you will do: 

The role sits within HSBC Continental Europe Wholesale Credit Risk Management (HBCE WCRM) in the Wholesale Credit Approval team based in Paris
HBCE WCRM is responsible for managing the credit risk for France and the Continental Europe branches and subsidiaries (Spain, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic, Nordics, Malta and Germany) across different segments of the economy – from Small and Medium Businesses to Large Corporates and Global Banking names, Sovereigns, Financial Institutions and Intra/Inter group.  
The purpose of this role is to replace a Senior Credit Manager in the Corporate LC/GB team who has seized another opportunity outside of the group.
T. Klemm (Head of WCRM HBEU), Hugues de l’Epine (Head of Wholesale Credit, HBCE) and Olivier Berranger (Head of Credit Approvals) support the request. 

Key responsibilities include:

  •  Leading the TMT, Healthcare, Chemicals, Services credit Team, a team of 4 people.
  • Credit monitoring a portfolio comprised of c. 150 counterparties, mainly in the TMT sector, and actively participate in the Regional Sector reviews,
  • Reviewing, recommending or approving credit applications using allocated credit authorities in a manner which safeguards HBCE’s and the Group’s capital and reputation while contributing to its growth aspirations. The portfolio will be mainly comprised of HBCE credit applications in the TMT sector but, as a team leader, responsibilities will also include the approval of applications recommended by credit managers covering other sectors in the team such as Healthcare, Chemicals, Services.
  • Being the primary point of contact for the portfolio under responsibility for all Wholesale Credit Risk related matters, which, in addition to approvals, also includes pipeline discussions, portfolio/sector reviews, management of problem exposures, circulation of processes, policies and guidelines.
  • Being the Credit contact for one or several branches and participate in the oversight of this/these branch(es). 
  • Involvement in region-wide and local Wholesale Credit Risk related projects or forums as delegated by Head of WCRM and Head of Corporate Credit Approvals, HBCE.
    Accountabilities/ Deliverables 
  • Ensure credit decisions are of high quality, understood by applicants and provided in a timely manner.
  • Represent HBCE Credit at the appropriate committees (e.g. CAC, WWM Committees, Sector Reviews).
  • Ensure effective teamwork within HSBC credit Risk teams, HBCE Front Office CMB/GB and Support Functions 
  • Implement/maintain policies & procedures in respect of GB/CMB Large Corporate counterparties in a manner that balances effective risk management with business growth/economic profit objectives. 
  • If needed, provide input into the implementation of process to fulfil new regulatory constraints or evolution.

What does good/success look like?

  • Develop excellent and regular communication with the relevant managers/RM within CMB GB, to understand their strategic goals/key priorities/constraints and to ensure that credit applications are in line with Group / HBEU Risk policies
  • Provide input into the design and implementation of organization & process changes within the credit team that are deemed necessary to improve efficiency while complying, with all extent possible, to Group / HBEU model. 
  • Ensure timely responses to the business units in line with SLA’s and specific business needs.
  • Help develop the Team and be successful in a challenging risk environment.
Conditions

You should apply if you have:   

  • Solid academic qualifications in financial analysis; University education. MBA / CFA / CPA is a significant plus
  • Corporate credit risk management experience: 5-year experience in the GBM/LC coverage team or credit Department
  • Desirable technical experience
  • Microsoft applications
  • Personal skills
  • Fluent in English, speaking French is also an advantage.  
  • Critical and logical mind
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills
