We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Software Engineering Manager.
Business: Insurance
Principal responsibilities
- Manage an Insurance Technology Team and vendor aligned to the service contracted within Risk IT
- The major service management component is against the vendor PMCS service provided by FIS
- Ensure service is delivered against the SLA and meets the business needs and requirements from the Insurance Actuarial and Reporting teams
- Ensure the business team’s utilise the PMCS service to ensure Technology assets are suitably utilised and capacitised; continual improved value from the service is achieved; with a year on year cost reduction of the overall spend
- Ensure the service is aligned and runs against the Technology Risk framework and Third Party Security Review (TPSR) controls, and the vendor complies with the HSBC SOX detailed requirements
Vendor and Contract Management
- Manage vendors, primarily FIS for the PMCS Software as a Service (SaaS) against the contractual service (Run) and delivery (Change) obligations
- The overall spend with FIS for PMCS for Run and Enhancement Change is around circa $7m USD per annum
- Ensure shareholder value is achieved from contract including negotiating the Change Requests; tracking budget and overall spend
- Lever the contractual relationship with FIS at a Strategic level to the benefit of HSBC and shareholder value
Technology Change and Delivery Management
- Management a VSIP (CTB) budget of circa $1m USD for enhancements and change against requirements from the Insurance Actuarial and Reporting team
- Budget for IFRS17 3.0 in 2025 for Change allocated to the INS Tech is ~700k USD
Team and Stakeholder Management
- Able to manage a team of around 10 Technology colleagues to deliver:
- Run (RTB) functions to meet SLA of the services under Risk IT, which is predominantly PMCS SaaS provided by the vendor FIS
- VSIP Enhancements and Change (CTB) of around 1m USD per year
- Manage a number of senior stakeholders within and outside of Technology organisation. This includes senior Actuarials and non-Technology team colleagues who have reasonable technology knowledge
- It is expected that frequent daily travel to Hong Kong will be required to meet key stakeholders and internal customers
- Acts as the Tech partner for the Group Chief Actuary, and Head of Business Reporting, and their team
- Programme enhancement implementation into the Risk Technology solutions for IFRS17
- Responsible to work with Actuary and Transformation teams regarding budget and orderbook planning
- Accountable for the delivery of technology solution against the orderbook meeting agreed schedule, requirements, budget and quality
- Leads the Production Availability of the Risk Technology systems, ensuring service level agreements are achieved
- Manages the Risk Tech team with a cost/effectiveness optimized location strategy
- Sets the people strategy for the team, promotes continuous improvement and leads by example
- Influences and collaborates with stakeholders to drive the right outcomes balancing the needs across all

Requirements
• Experience in Tech team management in a large organisation with strong track record of technology solution delivery in a Global and local structure
• Experience in managing Insurance systems in large and global insurers
• Experience of large scale Technology hosting; public Cloud; complex Tech solutions
• Ability to guide HSBC Technology teams, while working with vendors to resolve incidents and find root cause
• Knowledge on Actuarial functional and the associated processes
• Ability to develop cohesive working relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
• Thrive effectively under pressure with competing and changing priorities.
• Proven and demonstrable knowledge of best practice within technology development, project management and business analysis standards, tooling and process.
• Bring analytical rigour, structure and effective solutions to poorly-defined problems applying common sense and lateral thinking.
• Proven leadership skills, with a track record of building and motivating high performance teams
• Strong interpersonal, influencing, persuading and communication skills - applicable through multiple channels (written, spoken, workshops, presentations)
• Excellent team leader and player, able to lead others into action, and with ability to work under minimal supervision
• Ability to find ways of solving or pre-empting problems.
• Knowledge of the Insurance business lines, programmes and external environments would be an advantage.• Third Party Service Management of various sytems and align to HSBC Governance standards and establish appropriate governance to track, escalate and feedback performance to Third Party service providers
• Vendor Risk Management and Third Party Risk Owner of Systems
Develop and Implement a Target Operation Model for the oversight and governance of Vendor Risk within Insurance Tech.
Assist, train and advise Third Party Risk Owners on how to comply with HSBC and Insurance Technology policy regarding Third Party RiskVendor Contract Negotiations:
Develop and Implement at Target Operating Model Design and Governance Framework.
Track, and report against progress on contract negotiations.
Train, advise and help country leads navigate HSBC procurementInfluences and collaborates with stakeholder and delivery partners to drive the right outcomes. Represents the Insurance Tech at various HSBC forums and meetings.
