Job Summary
HSBC Digital Business Services is a pivotal part of the Group, providing essential operational and technical support to our global businesses and helping improve customer service and efficiency. Digital Business Services combines global expertise and technology to help keep us ahead of the competition. Chief Operating Officer (COO) has overall responsibility for managing Digital Business Services (DBS), providing essential support for the bank through operations, technology and key central business services. The Performance Services (PS) team supports the COO and Chief Administration Officer (CAO) by working with teams internally and externally on the COO’s behalf, provides business management support (e.g. communications, strategy execution, financial management, governance and people engagement) and provides a wide range of employee services and benefits. The PS Team will also drive continuous improvement across the Group COO structure in areas such as Change Execution, Non-Financial Risk, Third Party Risk Management and People.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provide administrative support to the Country COO/ Country CAO/ Head of Performance Services.
- Financial Management –provide support in robust financial planning, management, tracking and reporting, with Global/Regional/Country Finance.
- Governance – provide support in ensuring appropriate and consistent governance is developed and implemented with robust documentation and supporting management controls.
- People Strategy – coordination of initiatives to support the People Strategy to enhance staff engagement and internal communication.
- Service Performance Management – provide support in managing any “services” delivered to business, with appropriate benchmarks, metrics and reporting on efficiency, effectiveness and success of those “services”.
- Deliver Change Execution – assist in managing business or team change, either internally or externally driven, effectively and efficiently, with appropriate stakeholder communication, to ensure the Country COO delivers their required services.
- Organisational Design – support to maintain and continually challenge the organisational design with the HR team to ensure it is as simple, effective and efficient as possible.\
- Communications – provide support in developing and managing communication plans both within and outside of the Function’s (and Regional/Country DBS) to ensure internal and external teams have a strong understanding of the Function’s purpose, strategy, deliverables and value.
- Support the development of policy and process – in line with Global, Region and Country HR, ensuring our people are engaged, well managed and supported.
- Project and Strategy Execution – implement approaches for Country COO/ Country CAO/ Head of Performance Services ensuring strong stakeholder understanding of the purpose and value of the HSBC strategy.
- Support the management of non-financial risk and ensuring risks are managed consistently and effectively across all businesses and functions in line with the agreed risk appetite
- Non-financial Risk management – support with the management of non-financial risk and ensuring risks are managed consistently and effectively across all businesses and functions in line with the agreed risk appetite.
- Third Party Risk Management – support with the management of risks associated with the activities provided by third parties to the entity, in line with the country COO’s accountability. Including supporting effective governance arrangements for Third Party Management and Oversight across the market, and running the market level governance.
- Enterprise Wide Risk Assessment (EWRA) – end to end coordination of the EWRA, by working closely with GB/GF stakeholders locally to seek inputs and undertake the assessment.
Requirements:
- Good understanding of HSBC structures, processes and objectives across the Group
- Good knowledge of the external environment, such as regulatory, political, competitors etc
- Good knowledge of DBS or similar functions in other organisations, functionally, operationally and financially
- Good project management experience with an ability to influence senior stakeholders
- Good relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills
- Previous background of working in a matrix organisation structure
- Strong verbal and written communications skills required in English. Japanese capabilities are advantageous. Ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels across the Group
- Strong ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in simple language to support problem analysis
- Strategic thinker, with the ability to develop quickly and easily the vision into execution design and management, and to anticipate the “next issue”
- Practical experience of major business transformation activities is preferred but not essential
- Ability and comfort to work across cultures
- Deep understanding of risk management process from FLOD perspective
- Some risk management experience is highly desirable
- Some understanding or experience of Third Party Risk Management is desirable
Qualifications / Experience
- Experience in risk management and third party risk related activities
- Educated to graduate degree level in business management related field or associated relevant business experience
- Extensive experience in banking/ financial services, preferably in a global organization
- Proven experience in financial budgeting, strategic planning, communication, and people management processes
- Proven project management experience with an ability to influence senior stakeholders
- Previous background of working in a matrix organization structure; ability to persuade individuals at different levels
