Global Finance Operations Center (GFOC) provides a variety of financial support services to business partners over the HSBC Group. As part of the financial accounting team, we are primarily responsible for all the month close & reporting activities that lead up to the preparation of the financial statements.

The Opportunity:

  • The role involves implementation of Trade finance and import-export module (GTS) module for PSGL France and handle the related accounting, consolidation & reporting and balance sheet substantiation work, requiring sound understanding of Local and IFRS provisions. The role also envisages review, preparation and consolidation of financial reporting and understanding of GL capabilities and functionalities. Professionals would be an individual contributor or have to handle team and working on high end systems and various accounting software applications, to deliver accounting & reporting.
  • Develop understanding of and perform assessment of the HIE (HUB Import and Export) and GTS module functionalities and their impact to ledger and reporting.
  • Develop extensive understanding of accounting topics related to trade finance & import export modules.
  • Supporting & lead the creation of accounting schema for trade products in HBCE (HSBC Continental Europe).
  • Perform Impact assessment & lead implementation of GTS products/ functionalities in HBCE
  • Perform impact assessment on FA reporting processes such as IFRS, GSIB and FINREP by reviewing the published guidelines and requirements.
  • Participate & lead the sign off and UAT process and have necessary understanding to be able to develop a testing strategy for smooth transitioning of FA processes.
  • Working within a fast moving and demanding environment with significant regulatory changes and strict timelines
  • Working with senior management stakeholders directly and managing effective delivery and communication

Business

  • Should have extensive expertise in accounting under relevant GAAPs, GL Close and “analytical reviews”.
  • Advance knowledge and practical application of IFRS Standards.
  • Prior experience in Financial Accounting & Reporting area would be preferable.
  • Good understanding of flow of data from the source systems to the Final Reporting tools.
  • Good understanding of GL functionalities, reconciliations.
  • Prior experience in GL Implementation would be preferable.
  • Should be aware of the testing methodologies for the GL implementation.
  • Should be well versed and prior experience with Balance sheet Reconciliation and Substantiation process.
  • Should have logical thinking embedded in daily approach to work.
  • Should be capable of picking new projects/assignments / process: Identify, Drive, Build & operate it as BAU.
  • Responsible for executing the business as usual (BAU), Controls in the financial accounting processes.
  • Should be good in Excel / MS Access.
  • Identify opportunities for process re-engineering / improvement and drive changes independently.
  • Drive projects / identify automation opportunities.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Should have an approach of be a Business Developer 
  • Ensure support is provided as per requirement of stakeholders.
  • Attend/Organize all business calls /meetings and drive issue resolution as required.
  • Respond to queries from senior group level management as appropriate.
  • Able and willing to pick up the new activities and contribute to the new accounting/reporting initiatives.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • CA only with at least 10+ years of post-qualification experience in accounting and reporting.
  • Past experience of working in Banking organization will be an advantage.
  • Sound Accounting & Financial Reporting knowledge.
  • Prior experience in working in HUB modules, understanding of trade products.
  • Strong Understanding of IFRS & French GAAP Standards.
  • Prior experience in GL implementation preferable
  • Good understanding of IFRS, FinRep and GSIB reporting requirements.
  • Exposure to multiple systems and database handling. Prior experience in Saracen submissions preferable.
  • Understanding of the Ledger, peoplesoft and its various functionalities.
  • Excellent communication skills, including experience of explaining complex technical matters simply.
  • Ability to understand numbers and their impact. Drive and achieve accuracies across report deliveries.
  • High level analysis skills, including the ability to look at the bigger picture and interpret data & trends in the context of business, as well as the ability to work quickly & accurately to tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of, and experience in planning and organizing techniques as well as in problem solving techniques
  • Self-driven, with the ability to lead teams and work within a team
  • Flexibility to work in accordance with Business requirements
  • Capable of working with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into process / data maps, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail and being solution oriented
  • Complex analytical reasoning skills enabling appraisal of the Global reporting requirements and translate into functional requirements for
  • system development
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written) and an ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple manner to a global audience
  • Willing to challenge the status quo, be proactive and innovative in driving change
  • Willing to travel if needed
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS related products i.e PowerPoint, Excel.

What additional skills will be good to have?

Stretched Hours at month end is normal practice , candidate should be flexible to work in any time zone, should have handled large database and have proficiency in excel.
