The Opportunity:

  • HSBC is looking for an analyst to join the Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) Global Institutional Clients (GIC) COO team, based in Bangalore. GIC is a newly-formed and fast-growing business within HSBC, encompassing the full scope of institutional clients across the Group, including Investors, Banks, Securities Firms, Insurers, Public Sector, and other NBFIs. The Analyst supports the COO team in working with key GIC Coverage partners to ensure the business runs smoothly, business development plans are clear, and that the team executes those plans with partners from within GIC and the broader CIB e.g., Markets & Securities Services (MSS). In addition, the role holder will work in partnership with stakeholders across the Global Business and COO teams to execute key strategic initiatives for GIC globally. Working as part of a small team, the role holder will gain significant exposure to all types of institutional clients as well as visibility from senior management.

What you’ll do:

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)

  • Play a critical role in supporting the Institutional Client Coverage COO team globally, helping to manage the GIC business globally via using tools & data to provide strategic insights that inform business decisions
  • Responsible for working in partnership with stakeholders across the Global Business and COO teams to execute key strategic initiatives for GIC globally and simplify operating model where possible.
  • Develop and prepare qualitative and quantitative analysis independently and create presentations for a variety of audience (eg team, management and board/ExCo papers).  Examples of BAU reporting activities include Omnia (financial) reporting, client interaction analysis, business planning and strategy
  • Be able to learn quickly and support on a wide variety of strategic initiatives, from improving policy and processes to client prioritization and optimizing business models
  • Support implementation and roll-out of transformation and system improvements
  • Take full ownership of BAU reporting tasks such as client interaction reporting, business outlook exercise, etc.
  • Form and maintain key relationships, building excellent rapport with bankers, CCO, HR, Comms colleagues, etc.
  • Support the monitoring of on-going client risk management activities at the portfolio level, such as overdue credit or KYC reviews.
  • Carry out ad-hoc tasks and deliver as per agreed timelines

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Knowledge and skills required for this role

  • Have a basic understanding of relevant sectors/products
  • Have strong command of internal systems such as Omnia and CME
  • Have excellent grasp of PowerPoint / Excel / Word and ability to distil large datasets into key themes / issues
  • Knowledge of automation tools or advance data analytics tools is a plus
  • Have the willingness to learn about CIB and Institutional Clients
  • Have proven ability to work with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Be able to work effectively under pressure and with multiple stakeholders
  • Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to work across cultures
  • Have the willingness to own and tackle problems as they arise and to ask thoughtful questions when further clarification is required
  • Traits: Highly motivated; strong work ethic; thrives under pressure, confident, team player

Others

  • Preferably, 1-3 years of relevant work experience in supporting senior management, COO, Omnia, CME, etc.
