In support of HSBC’s ambitious growth and transformation strategy in Hong Kong, we are establishing a new, dedicated operational leadership role based in GSC China to drive delivery excellence and scalable transformation for AMH and HASE.

 

The Opportunity:

The role holder will be responsible for overall management and development of the HK pillar WPB Data Analytics &AI (DAAI) team based in GSC China. As the Head of DAAI hub in Guangzhou, the role holder is expected to transform Data, Analytics, AI into a source of sustainable, competitive advantage for WPB in HK pillar. He/she will be working with highly specialized analysts, engineers, scientists located in Guangzhou and will be responsible for innovatively joining up with different specialisms across DAAI and also across business to ensure rapid and seamless deployment of best practices. Liaising with cross operation teams in GSC China to facilitate the team will be an important focus of this role.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee AMH and HASE D&A team solution and service delivery at the GSC entity, working closely with business stakeholders covering retail banking business and operation domains, ensuring proper working principle with necessary regulatory governance and competition segregation.

  • Contribute to the establishment of consistent, best-in-class DAAI capability, supporting the HK WPB customer and revenue growth goals with analytics enablement, automating and digitalizing customer journey with data & AI modernization, improving end-to-end operational efficiency.

  • Establish and maintain best practice sharing environment for all aspects of advanced analytics capabilities, new data sources, AI platform practices, operational MI & analysis.

  • Collaborate with front-to-back HK WPB operation teams in GSC, leveraging data and AI capability to drive operation efficiency projects.

  • Collaborate in the ML & AL Capability Delivery Pillar, fostering relationships with key stakeholders across function teams to identify opportunities and deliver ML & AI solutions that drive innovation and efficiency.

  • Co-design AI solution with Tech in close collaboration, to construct multi-layer architecture bridging use cases and platform, experiment to optimize AI model and platform performance

  • Identify key D&A competencies and skillsets within the team to develop capability and scale new approaches more broadly across teams.

  • Be a global thought leader within Data & Analytics community, providing strategic and tactical inputs to analytical capabilities, data sources, AI products.

  • Advocate for a culture of continuous learning and improvement across analytics community, encouraging teams to stay abreast of the latest advancements in data, AI, proactively promoting value of analytics via effective communication & tracking.

  • Foster external partnerships with academia as well as commercial organizations to advance the bank's R&D efforts in traditional AI and GenAI, facilitating knowledge exchange and innovation.

  • Ensure effective communication of AI capabilities and achievements to internal and external audiences, enhancing HSBC's reputation as a leader in technology innovation.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or related quantitative field.

  • Deep experience in large-scale banking preferably in Retail and/or Wealth.

  • Proven experience in building and leading an analytics function in a large-scale organization. Involvement and leadership in entity-wise data/ AI driven project preferred.

  • Proven experience in leading ML and AI projects, with a strong understanding of algorithmic foundations and model development.

  • Excellent leadership and collaborative skills, with experience in co-leading teams and initiatives.

  • Strong background in fostering R&D partnerships with external entities, particularly academia.

  • Solid understanding of the financial services industry and its regulatory environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Able to drive effective partnerships with other industry players in the local market and create effective relationships with top tier universities to further enhance the abilities and talent of the team.

  • Ability to influence and negotiate with business leaders to drive strategic changes.
