Wholesale IT / Common Capabilities is introducing more consistency in aspects of Wholesale IT delivery. Thus enabling better customer outcomes through re-use and standardization and the efficiencies that result. Team achieving this by: Identifying those areas where increased standardization will produce benefits. This will be through design standards E.g. API standards – looking to avoid future expensive migrations resulting from differing approaches around API designs and tools and also through capability standardization, converging service approach supplying that capability E.g. use a smaller number of API Platforms or Notification Services. In doing all this we will deliver robust and innovative solutions to satisfy customer need. But do this in a way that reduces duplication, encourages re-use and fosters a collaboration culture within Wholesale IT.
 

The Opportunity:

The Infrastructure Architecture function partners with Solution Architecture to:

  • Design high quality technology platforms with tiered service levels
  • aligned with each technology to manage the infrastructure services, vendor engagement and product lifecycles.
  • Deliver cost savings & efficiency through reduced complexity
  • Improve time to market for delivery of services
  • Enable effective regulatory, audit & security controls
  • Drive productivity & sustainability 

What you’ll do:

  • Writing infrastructure designs for Wholesale Shared Service that align with the overall enterprise infrastructure strategy and the business area's strategy
  • Managing and optimizing the portfolio of infrastructure for each business unit, driving operational improvement and cost efficiencies
  • Supporting Wholesale Shared Service business projects and transformation programs by delivering new IT services, exploiting current infrastructure technologies, migrating applications to IaaS/PaaS platforms on internal and external cloud, driving greater utilization of virtualization and lower cost storage, and migrating away from non-strategic technology platforms
  • Investigating new infrastructure technologies to meet the GBGF business requirements
  • Providing technical governance over the products used in HSBC through the Technical Reference Model (TRM)
  • Writing and reviewing Infrastructure Architecture Designs approved by appropriate Authority
  • Managing relationships across HSBC IT Architecture, IT Infrastructure Delivery, and Wholesale Shared Service Application Development team areas on an ongoing basis
  • Keeping up to date with business strategies and roadmaps, technology roadmaps, and feeding wider business IT requirements into central infrastructure engineering and strategy
Requirements
  • A university graduate with a degree in computer science or a related discipline
  • At least 10 years of technical experience in the IT industry
  • Strong knowledge of cloud technologies such as Google GCP, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, APIs, Mulesoft, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Expertise in container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proficiency in databases such as Oracle RAC, Sybase, Apache Hadoop & Hbase, and MongoDB
  • Experience in Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery tools such as Jenkins, GitHub, and Nexus
  • Familiarity with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, and Terraform
  • Knowledge of middleware such as Websphere, Tomcat, Java, Messaging, Application Server, and Web server
  • Understanding of networking concepts such as Cisco, TCP/UDP, Broadcast/Multicast, LAN/WAN, and SDN
  • Experience in server operating systems internals, benchmarking, and performance tuning for Linux, Windows, and Solaris
  • Knowledge of server virtualization technologies such as VMware, Xen, Hyper-V, and KVM
  • Familiarity with storage technologies such as EMC SAN – FC, FCoE, iSCSI, SRDF; NetApp NAS - CIFS, NFS; and Object storage
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
  • Passion for technology and a deep understanding of how things work. 

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • GCP Certificate or equivalent certification from other cloud service providers.
  • have a proven track record of delivering significant change that improves business effectiveness in sustainable ways.
  • A track record of making technical decisions with authority, even in times of ambiguity, while considering the potential long-term risks and implications is a must-have.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills are required, with experience successfully influencing stakeholders, negotiating effectively, and delivering compelling and persuasive presentations.
  • The candidate should have a history of setting and achieving challenging short, medium, and long-term goals that exceed the standards in their field.
  • Built effective networks both internally and externally, creating opportunities for others to work collaboratively is a desirable quality for this position.
