This is a Short Term Assignment (STA) for 12months

Background:

The Capital Markets and Advisory (CMA) business is in the midst of a significant organizational and strategic transformation. The Business Risk team are critical to support CMA to stay safe and continue to meet its regulatory obligations. Given the heightened change environment, there is a need to create a temporary leadership role to refine and execute a robust business risk strategy, ensuring seamless operations and stakeholder collaboration during this pivotal period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the transformation agenda for CMA business risk, including digital innovation and process/control automation, while improving operational resilience, with a focus on efficiency and scalability 
  • Drive and implement a consistent, effective, forward-looking risk management approach across all products, regionally and globally.
  • Work closely with Risk Stewards to understand, assess and manage risks affecting CMA.
  • Identify opportunities for data automation for control monitoring and build out the end to end processes ensuring this is fully embedded and sustainable
  • Lead and inspire a team of Global Product risk specialists based in London and India.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring high performance and engagement within the team to progress and deliver effective results on key projects / issues.
  • Collaborate across CIB COO to identify and deliver opportunities to transform CMA risk processes to reduce complexity and duplication and increase automation 
  • Develop junior team members' skills to enhance subject matter expertise, business engagement and risk management capabilities.
  • Support and/or Lead on stakeholder engagements with key global products such as SEF, CRS, DCM, SSG, and AIBC teams with a specific focus on HBEU, Europe, and the US markets.
  • Deliver a demanding NFR agenda in a complex regulatory environment, supporting sustainable growth and technology deployments.
  • Deputize for the Global Head of Business Risk, CMA.

Role holder considerations and challenges

  • Balancing the considerable demands of the role, the team and stakeholders to ensure that consistent approach to a regulatory change delivery and risk management is adopted 
  • Ensuring there is sufficient long-term planning and objective setting notwithstanding this is a Short Term Assignment (STA)
  • Increasing complexity and changing risk profile of CMA will drive a need to review and end to end of how risk is being managed. This may require investment in new tooling, infrastructure, training and/or processes
  • Taking into account the needs of running the BAU team as well as focusing on how to support the transformation along side CMA’s business changes will continue to be a challenge in prioritization to ensure the right focus 
  • The multitude of jurisdictions and local regulatory requirements pose challenges, and the CMA business transformation has added new jurisdictions to the portfolio. 
  • Managing ambiguity and fast paced change.
Requirements

Essential experience

  • Stakeholder Management: Effectively manages relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring alignment of goals with broader organisational objectives.
  • Leadership: Brings team members along the journey by demonstrating an ability to inspire at scale, using purpose and values to generate followership. Consciously invests in developing teams and succession planning
  • Banking Products: Extensive knowledge and experience with investment banking products and a deep understanding of the risk profile and key controls
  • Risk management: strong working understanding of risk across the suite of CMA products including financial and non-financial risks and how these are managed within a complex matrix structure and varied regulatory environments
  • Regulatory risk: Understanding of regulatory, compliance, and political issues. Ability to communicate complex issues concisely to executives and regulators.
