HSBC Corporate Banking in the UK provides both domestic and international commercial banking services to our existing and prospective clients. Customers typically have a turnover of between 15M and 350M, and the team is responsible for customer service excellence and growth to our existing and prospective customers.

 

We are seeking an experienced, customer focused, people leader to join this team in the role of Deputy Area Director.

 

The Deputy Area Director role is responsible for leading, coaching, managing and developing Relationship Managers and Directors to deliver against objectives to retain and grow their customer portfolio. The role holder will actively participate in strategic decisions to drive the Corporate business forward with a focus on quality, high value, customers and prospects.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Lead a high performing and cohesive team aligned to a common purpose, living HSBC values and delivering fair outcomes for customers.
  • Coach Relationship Directors (RDs) and support staff to be strategic partners who provide client-focused solutions.
  • Drive appropriate financial focus in the team to enhance revenue growth through both current and new to bank clients.
  • Develop a business growth strategy that helps your direct reports and the wider team focus on the most promising opportunities according to the local market.
  • Demonstrate widely recognised commercial credibility that leads to increased referrals, new clients and closed deals.
  • Ensure RDs take a proactive approach to client planning, collaborating effectively with product partners and colleagues to assess customer need and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Ensuring appropriate risk appetite in driving the business, whist maintaining risk controls and customer due diligence.

 

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

 

  • Experience working in a relevant role within Corporate/Large Corporate Banking/Structured Finance is essential.
  • Proven ability in identifying and meeting customer’s needs and generating complex lending both monetary and applying appropriate products and solutions.
  • Possess, or have the ability to build effective networks across business areas, and the local community, developing relationships based on mutual trust.
  • A comprehensive understanding of risk management and proven experience of ensuring own/others' compliance with relevant regulatory processes.
  • An experienced people leader, able to coach and develop those less experienced to drive a high-performance culture whilst delivering customer and financial objectives.
  • Strong credit assessment skills, particularly with regard to more complex and structured facilities, allowing them to both develop the team and where necessary lead by example on transactions.
  • Ability to work closely and collaboratively with all other segments/products to ensure fair and best outcomes for the customer.

 

This is a role where you will need to be regularly present in HSBC offices working with the team and travel is required for client and departmental meetings; we work flexibly to meet the requirements of our role.  The role would be ideally based from our Reading Corporate Banking Centre, however, applications are also welcome from those who are or can be based from Southampton.  It is important that the successful applicant is based within an easily commutable distance of this area.
