The Collateral Management team provides collateral calculations and exposure monitoring for clients based in Asia. This team is responsible for all aspects of collateral monitoring and works closely with the business unit risk managers, front office including sales, operations and documentation groups. The team performs margin calculations based on the legal margin documents and ensures that the exposures are within the defined comfort levels. The team covers client accounts that trade under the, FOL, Prime, ISDA CSA & GMRA documents.


The Opportunity & What you’ll do:

Impact on the Business
  • Align FXPB margin function with the global model into the Equity Prime margin space
  • Mitigate margin and day-to-day operational risk HBAP Collateral Services
  • Implement and enhance the necessary systems, procedures and processes required to provide clients with a smooth and efficient operational experience.
  • Follow the department objectives, focus and update senior management re Control initiatives and escalate issues in a timely fashion
  • Observe and maintain internal control standards associated with HSBC policy/FIM standards across legal, compliance, credit, operations and other key stake-holder groups.
  • Process the daily HBEU Static Data checks and updates for Prime (Reference data, Frame Margin setup)

Customers / Stakeholders
  • Individuals, corporations, banks and financial institutions who are active clients of in Global Banking and Markets
  • Internal parties including senior management of Front Office, Credit Risk, Finance, Documentation and Legal who assist to determine and negotiate terms and condition under various documentations

Operational Effectiveness & Control
  • Take initiatives to improve workflow in a continued effort and increase efficiency and accuracy
  • Comply with terms of documentation, market practices and internal policies. Perform reconciliations and investigations regularly
  • Ensure the successful processing of daily margin payments

Major Challenges
  • In addition, the role will require a large degree of management of streamlining of processes while seeking efficiencies within current processes to ensure that appropriate economies of scale are achieved.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for the review of new business initiatives relating to collateral optimisation in Collateral functions and the process impact to Collateral Operations e.g. FXPB, Repo, Equity business. Aligning the various businesses.
  • This role will require the incumbent to build out an effective team covering Collateral Services tasks on a daily basis. This will require the individual to understand and educate their team, be able to work with multiple business stakeholders and communicate constructively and concisely.
  • Liaising with multiple stakeholders and updating on the regulatory impact coming out of North America and Europe. Managing stakeholder queries.

Role Context
  • The role holder will support the Collateral Services business and the future growth of the business.
  • The role holder must establish good relationships with internal counterparties (Front Office, Credit Risk, Product Control, Ops Product Heads) in order to resolve and manage issues.
  • Good understanding of financial products, including equity/fixed income OTC derivative, FX products and basic knowledge of ISDA/CSA is a bonus

  • Be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with your role and act in a manner that takes account of operational risk, including ensuring the team is compliant with internal policy

  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy.

Role Dimensions
  • The Prime Collateral team is responsible for direct interaction with clients in regard to the issuance, receipt and settlement of all margin related activity for Prime Brokerage and OTC derivatives, while maintaining a high standard of client service at all times

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Work as a Lead in a team whose function is to provide OTC, SEF, FXPB, Strategic Equity Finance and Equity Prime Collateral Services.
  • Manages upwards and engages with regional business partners to support the growth and development of the Collateral Services businesses across Asia.
  • Participates in system enhancements and new business initiatives, in particular driving and focusing on the enhancement/replacement of the Collateral Processing engine, FRAME, SLAMS and SCP
  • Participates and drives internal and external working groups, forums such as the MRUD, APAC Collateral Forum and Prime and SEF working groups.
  • Develops strategy for Collateral Operations for the APAC region, in collaboration with the Global functional heads and regional Business partners. In addition, the role will steer other GB&M departments such as Risk, Front Office, and FX Prime etc on process and Operations impact
  • Manages and delivers the HBAP location strategy & offshoring. Including the delivery of a refreshed Hub and Spoke model for Asia and ensure regional standards are adhered to – including the offshore sites
  • Disseminates GB&M and Collateral Operations global strategies across the HBAP hub and spoke sites
