Risk & Compliance technology design and deploy cutting edge technology to defend the bank and its customers from Sanctions Risk, Financial Crime Risk, Identity Threat, Unauthorised Trading and Market Abuse & Regulatory Sanctions, as well as supporting Enterprise Risk Management. Group Electronic Communication Surveillance (GECS) is a solution that is run by R&C IT Surveillance currently provides regulatory electronic communication surveillance capabilities for HSBC globally. GECS analyses electronic communication traffic such as emails and instant messaging communications and applies various regulatory and HSBC policies against the communications.
We are seeking a Platform Engineer with a Data Specialization to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data platforms, with a focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and modern database technologies.
What you’ll do
• Design, implement, and manage cloud-based data infrastructure on GCP.
• Utilize GCP computing services (such as Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Functions, and Dataflow) to support data processing and analytics workloads.
• Administer and optimize databases including Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
• Ensure high availability, security, and performance of data platforms.
• Collaborate with data engineers, software engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver robust solutions.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve network and connectivity issues within the platform.
• Automate deployment, scaling, and management of data services.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
• Proven experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and its computing services.
• Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts and troubleshooting in cloud environments.
• Proficiency in scripting or programming languages (Python, Bash, etc.).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Cloud Deployment Manager, etc.) is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
