This will be achieved by:
  • Enforcing robust standards for our risk and control assessments and providing feedback to BRR role holders when deficiencies are identified so that remediation activity is undertaken.
  • Supporting Control Owners by conducting high quality and efficient reviews of our control design and performance.
  • Leading ‘deep dives’ and read across activities so sustainable mitigants and control improvements can be identified.
  • Drive a positive risk culture, raising awareness and understanding of risks, controls, and risk management.
  • Continuously improving the control and monitoring of risk.

The Opportunity:

  • The IWPB BRR COE team acts as an independent First Line of Defense (1LoD) function within the IWPB Global BRR Utility which supports our market Risk & Control Owners. The IWPB Risk & Control  Manager role undertakes, quality assessment reviews of risk and assessments,  risk-based  quality check (QC) of key/significant controls and processes within WPB, to provide comfort that the business is operating in line with relevant laws, regulations, principles, and HSBC Group standards and policies and to ensure that IWPB maintains adequate and effective controls and identifies where remediation or enhancements are required. They also perform deep-dive and read across activities on reviews of events, issues, opportunities and/or strategic change.
  • The remit may range from a small or large geographic area/country to our IWPB sub businesses or IWPB Global.

What you’ll do:

Role holder responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Thematic Review Activity:

  • Performing initial reviews of Data analytic outputs to identify IWPB Risks & Control Assessments that require remediation/ enhancements due to a failure of the set quality standards.
  • Carrying out thorough preparation, driving and participating in execution of a wide range of control design QC activities covering IWPB markets.
  • Timely delivery of risk and control QC reviews and being transparent and accurate in the completion of deliverables.
  • Applying judgment in relation to the identification and publication of QC review findings through identifying the key risks and issues.
  • Embedding quality into the QC review deliverables and ensuring compliance with the IWPB BRR Risk & Control review Methodology.
  • Providing expertise and guidance on risk and control QC process across IWPB BRR and applying critical judgment and decision making in relation to the identification and publication of QC review findings through identifying the key risks and issues.
  • Maintaining working relationships with key stakeholders including keeping abreast of key business, regulatory and industry developments and any changes to procedures and practices.
  • Preparation of review reports and dashboards to inform key stakeholders and role holders of the outcome of QC review work.
  • Track and follow-up actions identified because of QC review work and escalating when necessary.

Read Across Activity:

  • Work with Global IWPB BRR stakeholders and SMEs for assigned deliverable pertaining to the Read Across Activity. The read across activity includes supporting triaging and decisioning activity, post read across evidencing activity, specific theme based read across and developing required content for read across forum.
  • Identify from thematic analysis of IWPB events, issues areas that should be progressed to full read across reviews and then initiate the necessary activities.
  • Ensure the root cause is adequately documented to allow for a full review of the facts of the event and incident and capture all control failures.
  • Set up periodic meetings with SME’s (depending on no. of outstanding issues/events) and conduct Read across applicability assessment of events/ issue.
  • Maintain proper MI to track department work. The ageing events or issues pending for more than 3 months for Read Across applicability decisions should be escalated to Senior Manager BRR for read across.
  • Prepare a Deck for Global IWPB Read Across Forum which includes status of In-Progress Read across, Outcomes of completed Read across and all pending events/issues pending applicability assessment.
  • Understand, follow, and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any supporting policies and procedures.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Graduate in any discipline with strong academic background.
  • Demonstrable knowledge in NFR, Risk and control assessments, risk management of financial crime and regulatory compliance risks, internal control, or internal audit preferably within a financial / banking services operations environment.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in performing risk and control reviews or Audit/Assurance reviews (or equivalent) in Financial Service industry/ Process assessment experience.
  • Strong understanding of Risk Management Framework and practical experience of managing risk and controls.
  • Must have ability use the latest Data Visualisation techniques for reports/ dashboards/ packs etc.
  • Strong business writing, verbal communication and presentation skills. Must have ability to author and edit documents and be able to challenge and shape submissions.
  • Proven experience of positive relationship management, influencing and challenging interactions and collaboration with Senior Managers and stakeholders across the business/markets.
  • High level of personal drive and motivation to ensure delivery of a broad range of outputs simultaneously across HSBC.
  • Strong team player.
