The Opportunity:

  • The Future Analytics (FA) is a Compliance Enablement function within Financial Crime Digital Enablement, created to innovate, automate and enhance processes within FC Value streams, FC investigations and FC enablement functions.  The primary purpose of these solutions is the support the vision of FC detection of faster to crime, detect more crime at low cost point. Work within the FA enablement function is managed through cross-functional pods, where the FA team works in close collaboration with VS, IT and Investigations teams.
  • We are currently seeking a Data Scientist with a technical background as well as leadership and management skills to join this team. In the role, you will:
  • Work as part of a team and contribute to the development of HSBC’s machine learning-based capabilities for the pro-active identification of financial crime risks, using Big Data frameworks.
  • Work at the leading edge of analytics to apply the best possible combination of applied mathematics, statistics, advanced computing (machine learning, artificial intelligence), visualisation and data engineering to the area of combatting financial crime. Achieve real practical results and manage any areas of uncertainty.
  • Champion the correct behaviours, demonstrate a willingness to be pragmatic and listen and learn about new areas, approaches and ways of working to achieve a single collective goal.
  • Contribute to educating non-technical stakeholders on the design of the model(s), the benefits of machine learning and the model development lifecycle.

  • The individual will be responsible for statistical model development in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Promote a culture of data driven decision making, aligning short term decisions and investments with longer term vision and objectives.
  • Help the business to manage regulatory risk in a more effective, efficient, and commercial way through the adoption of data science (AI/ML and advanced analytics)
  • Support communication and engagement with stakeholders and partners to increase understanding and adoption of data science products and services also research opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other analytics teams across the banks to share insight and best practice.
  • Foster a collaborative, open and agile delivery culture.
  • Build positive momentum for change across the organization with the active support and buy-in of all stakeholders.
  • The ability to communicate often complex analytical solutions to the wider department, ensuring a strong transfer of key findings & intelligence.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Reporting to Head of Future Analytitcs – FC Digital Enablement or a senior delegate
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders within IT, Product management to deliver innovative analytical solutions to meet business demand.
  • Empower effective engagements between Risk Stewards and 1LOD, to understand business problems and propose analytical solutions whilst enabling smooth and effective deployment and change.

Management Risk

  • The role holder is responsible for the identification of Compliance related models as classified by the Group Model Risk standards and ensuring that these are developed and managed in accordance with these standards.
  • The role holder should also implement and oversee appropriate controls and governance to any analytical products or services that are classified as non-models.
  • The role holder will provide appropriate and timely management and remedial action to any risks, issues or findings related to their responsibilities.
  • The role holder will be responsible for operational, human capital and regulatory risk relating to the area.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Experience

  • Minimum 12 years of hands-on analytics experience solving complex business problems using data.
  • PhD or Masters degree from reputed university in statistics, economics, technology  or any other quantitative fields.
  • Understanding of Compliance, risks and direct experience of deployment of controls and analytics to manage those risks.
  • Experience in Financial Services (experience within a tier one bank) or related industry
  • Proven leadership track record in dynamic/changing banking environments and complex matrix structure
  • Experience of agile development

  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with proven experience working in a matrixed management structure, managing global teams.

  • Able to work independently and solve complex business problems whilst keeping stakeholders informed.

Technical Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of applied mathematics, statistics, data science principles and advanced computing (machine learning, modelling, NLP and Generative AI)
  • Experience working within the Hadoop ecosystem in addition to strong technical skills in analytical languages such as Python and SQL. Specific knowledge of GCP, AWS, Azure, Spark and/or graph theory an advantage.
  • Experience of visualization tools and techniques including Qlik.
  • Solid understanding of data & architecture concepts including cloud, ETL, Ontology, Data Modelling.
  • Experience of using JIRA, GIT, Confluence, Teams, Slack, Advanced Excel
