The Opportunity:
- Support with the delivery of the Legal Function’s commercial strategy – driving the right work, to the tight place, for the right price. Primarily focussed on all aspects of work related to the commercial tendering of external legal work to Law Firms and Alternate Legal Service Providers. This role will play an integral part in driving forward the continuous improvement agenda for the LME team and its collaboration with other business support professionals and HSBC internal lawyers. HSBC has set clear Effective Fee Arrangement (EFA) targets and this role with help to facilitate meeting this target. Law Firms typically charge based on an hourly rate, EFAs move away from this model and look at fixed ‘value based’ pricing. You will have good understanding of commercial agreements in a professional services environment, either delivery or acquisition. You will possess the technical skills to analyse large data sets and soft skills to communicate insights.
What you’ll do:
- Strong communication and Stake holder management
- Data extraction, cleansing, and reporting for monthly and quarterly reports, and Pricing dashboards using MS Excel and Qlik Sense.
- PERSUIT RFP-Request for Proposal housekeeping: reporting and working with HSBC lawyers to ensure timely completion of RFPs.
- RFP feedback and NPS collection: gap reporting from PERSUIT and working with HSBC lawyers to ensure feedback is of the requisite quality.
- Supporting on the key tactical project of reviewing existing EFA arrangements, including data selection and reporting
- Conduct first-line reviews of existing fee arrangements against Legal Tracker data and EFA principles, including agreed v actual outcomes, and highlight anomalies for remedy.
- Development of new reports that provide insight on new commercial initiatives and drive behavioural change.
- Assist with regular presentations to key internal stakeholders to increase the understanding and implementation of EFAs.
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of commercial processes, including EFA menus and pricing tools.
- Keep abreast of industry pricing practices, particularly for legal providers and assess key trends. Support in the development of and implementation of those new practices if advantageous to HSBC.
- Design of process playbooks.
- Ensuring adherence to Policies, Procedures and Governance.
- Act as a brand ambassador for Legal Market Engagement.
- The role-holder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
- This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring. Also, by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.
- Comply with Global Legal FIM as well as all other Global Business &/or Global Function FIMs relevant to the role.
- The role-holder will be expected to be proactive and highlight potential conflicts of priority or challenges to the successful adherence to deadlines.
- The nature of the role requires some contact with senior internal lawyers and across the Global Legal Function.
- The need to apply strong judgment and effective communications skills are essential.
- This role will require the individual to assume a proactive, collaborative role across the function and with business partners to ensure the creation and ongoing management of an operationally “excellent” organization.
- HSBC Legal has a complex dataset that has multiple sources. The jobholder will need to quickly understand what all of the sources are, what each of data points are, and how to combine them to provide meaningful insight.
- Legal services are often not delivered from a scope or cost perspective in line with the originally agreed effective fee arrangement. It is imperative that the full fee history is reviewed to understand actual v agreed deviations.
- Priorities change quickly so it is important that the jobholder is excellent at stakeholder engagement to manage expectations and seek input any material risks.
What you will need to succeed in the role:
- Master’s degree in finance, or equivalent with minimum of 7+ years of experience.
- Beneficial to have commercial experience within a professional services business.
- An understanding of how professional services are delivered.
- Advanced MS Office suite user (particularly Excel). Demonstrable experience of manipulating and working with large and complex volumes of data.
- Commercial acumen and exceptional analysis and financial modelling skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Experience of communicating analytical insight to non-subject matter experts
- A collaborative team-player who is transparent and has a straight-forward approach.
- Experience of working with varied and cross-functional teams to deliver on business objectives.
- Proven track record as a starter-finisher
What additional skills will be good to have?
- Project Management skills will be added advantage.
- Experience of working with Qlik or other data visualization tools preferable
