The Opportunity:

  • The Financial Crime (FC) Detection & Digital Enablement CoE is an integral part of the HSBC group’s
  • Financial Crime function. The CoE helps detect and mitigate FC Risks across HSBC group and regions through    
  • conceptualization development, deployment and maintenance of FC Detection solutions. FC risk is a non-financial risk
  • that includes fraud, money laundering, bribery and corruption, sanctions violations, terrorist financing, proliferation
  • financing, export control violations and tax evasion.
  • This role will provide SME functional and analytic support for the day-to-day maintenance of the WOLF filters globally,
  • covering the sanction list data, Rules, Grey lists, exclusion creation – plus upgrades to the filter and resource files.
  • This is a Transaction Screening Role whose purpose is to make the filter as efficient as possible in terms of ensuring
  • that only the highest quality alerts are generated by the Filter across HSBC Group to be passed for manual review.
  • This in turn will result into improved Customer experience and reduced client complaints.

What you’ll do:

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)

Impact on the Business

  • Provide management and direction to cross-functional experts (pods) from analytics, technology,
  • transformation and product management and key stakeholders across global functions and regions.
  • Implementing a consistent and effective management approach across the functional areas.
  • Prime interface within the Detection Value Stream for all Change and Prioritisation matters.
  • Support the FC Leadership in the delivery of investment across technology, intelligence, and analytics to
  • enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, security and cost profile of FC.
  • Assist drive, develop and implement programmes to quantify impacts and implement actions to address,
  • manage and mitigate impacts of FC related regulatory changes across the FC control framework.
  • As required by leadership, attend and represent FC in governance forums and meetings.

Process:

  • Undertaking analysis and development role in support of sanctions screening requirements associated with Transaction Screening- Reviewing the Transaction and coming up with appropriate tuning solutions.
  • Managing the Global hit rates and demonstrate reduction in false alerts by using proactive/reactive tuning
  • Developing, testing and approving tuning solutions in relation to false alerts generated for all LOB’s (Payments/Trade/Securities).
  • Maintaining required quality % of the process (individual & team)
  • Adhering to agreed SLA by ensuring there are NIL breaches and backlogs.
  • Following the audit requirements on daily basis/business wise (Team Audit Checklist)
  • Forecasting & planning the capacity efficiently within the process.
  • Initiating continuous quality/process improvements by adhering to the business requirements and QA feedback.
  • Communicating with stakeholders on data tuning solutions and quantitative updates on data analysis

Operational Effectiveness & Control:

  • Achieving 96% and above quality of the solutions provided by continuously reviewing tuning solutions and processes.
  • Ensuring response to the email queries are sent as per SLA’s and in line with procedures
  • Supporting the team for Annual Refresh of SOP’s, process controls & reassess operational Risk for
  • new/change in business requirements.

Customer / Stakeholders

  • Develop and Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders across Group functions,
  • lines of business, regions, and countries.
  • Facilitate the sharing of information and creation of feedback loops across the firm, with particular focus on
  • wider FC Detection stakeholder to continuously adapt and improve change management and optimisation.
  • Oversees the support and coordination capability necessary to manage the response to high priority
  • FC Detection Feedback requiring a coordinated response across Group Financial Crime functions,
  • Compliance, lines of business, regions, or countries.
  • Develop and maintain a strong and professional working relationship with Senior Management of FC,
  • Risk, Audit and Finance at Business, Group and Regional levels
  • Ensure appropriate timely and relevant risk information is provided to FC leadership and
  • appropriate governance forums

Operational Effectiveness and Control

  • Drive the articulation and embedding of FC Detection Optimisation controls. Ensure that these are
  • updated for changes in regulation and impacts on business.
  • Resolve any / all identified issues promptly and escalate concerns to management as appropriate to
  • ensure timely awareness of any material concerns.
  • Maintain and observe all HSBC control standards and implement relevant policies, including
  • the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal / external auditors and external regulators.
  • Where required, support the articulation and embedding of framework, policies, procedures, and controls
  • as they relate to FC Controls.
  • Maintain awareness of operational risk within the value stream and minimise the likelihood of it
  • occurring including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting.
  • Develop and present options to implement controls whilst retaining full benefit from investment in systems.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Ensure effective communication across Financial Crime and the business to all key stakeholders in
  • relation to FC Detection matters
  • Support the sharing of developments and best practice across the wider FC Function
  • Support delivers the value stream approach aligned to detection outcomes to deliver a seamless
  • integration of cross-functional expertise
  • Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with senior business leaders,
  • Risk and Compliance colleagues at Group, Regional and Market / Entity level
  • Work effectively as part of a team, taking the lead where appropriate and contributing to team output and collaboration
  • Foster a learning agile culture, promoting proactive review of lessons learned

Innovation & Teamwork:

  • Contributing to the development of Transaction Screening and data tuning solutions with appropriate, controls and metrics in place by:
  • Initiating ideas to improve the process,
  • Creating efficiencies by automation wherever possible
  • Providing solutions resulting in cost savings/cost avoidance for team
  • Suggesting workflows to reduce manual intervention on emails / requests

People:

  • Creating a self-development plan and agree/review necessary action plan with Line Manager
  • Recording 1-1 Monthly meetings on HR portal for effective feedback
  • Provide regular support to Line Management & Team(onshore/offshore), while focusing on improvement areas

The job holder will be expected to have:

  • Experience of Swift Payments & Sanctions Screening business
  • Experience in FIRCOSOFT would be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Sanctions policy and role played by regulators i.e OFAC, EU, HMT, UN etc.
  • Knowledge of 3 Lines of Defense
  • Graduate Degree with 8 years of experience in Payments/ Sanctions Screening/AML/Financial Crime
  • Experience any financial crime domains or Risk/ business analysis are preferred
  • Experience of working in an Agile Delivery lifecycle as developer or scrum master
  • Understanding of Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and execution
  • Ability to communicate clearly with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Work in night shifts (US shift hours)
  • Experience in improving Customer experience / reducing customer friction is also added advantage
