The Opportunity:

  • Regulatory Compliance ensures adherence to applicable regulations and standards by setting policies which cover HSBC’s regulatory requirements and mitigate conduct and reputational risk issues. The team strives to remain ahead of the regulatory change agenda and ensures the business understands the implications and is prepared for change. It monitors how Global Businesses and Functions manage their responsibilities with regard to complying with the regulations and helps resolve compliance deficiencies.
  • The role holder will support the Regulatory Conduct AI & Analytics in the Model Development in
  • Advanced analytical skills and emerging technology, develop proactive and pragmatic solutions to continually improve processes/approaches/solutions existing within the process.
  • The best possible combination of applied mathematics, statistics, advanced computing (machine learning, artificial intelligence), visualization and data engineering using leading edge technologies.
  • Will bring the ability to work with extremely large, complex data sets. The ability to merge large data sets, to generate insight from those data sets and to be able to visualize those insights for both technical and non-technical audiences and users.
  • Must demonstrate a strong desire to develop and use technical skills. The role holder will be writing code for the application of advanced analytics in regulatory compliance and must be able to critically interpret and analyze the results produced.
  • Create and deliver analytical solutions that are fully documented and explained that meet the business aims/requirements.
  • Exercises responsibility for updates to existing models through regular monitoring and validation of results.

What you’ll do:

  • The individual will be responsible for reporting RC AI & Analytics scorecard and key performance indicators in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Promote a culture of data driven decision making, aligning short term decisions and investments with longer term vision and objectives.
  • Help the business to manage regulatory risk in a more effective, efficient, and commercial way through the adoption of data science (AI/ML and advanced analytics)
  • Support communication and engagement with stakeholders and partners to increase understanding and adoption of data science products and services also research opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other analytics teams across the banks to share insight and best practice.
  • Foster a collaborative, open and agile delivery culture.
  • Build positive momentum for change across the organization with the active support and buy-in of all stakeholders.
  • The ability to communicate often complex analytical solutions to the wider department, ensuring a strong transfer of key findings & intelligence.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Reporting to Head of Model Development in RC AI & Analytics Regulatory Compliance or a senior delegate
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders within IT, Product management to deliver innovative analytical solutions to meet business demand.
  • Work with control functions, Audit, and Independent Model Review (IMR) to ensure the effective operation of the control framework including sharing best practice and thematic read across

Major Challenges

  • Establishing the function as a valued commodity to assist in banks response to compliance risk.
  • Operating within a continually changing environment where priorities and objectives can continually change.
  • Keeping the bank compliant and customers data safe in a changing landscape of data sharing legislation
  • Expected to be at the leading edge of the new technical skill set and working with new emerging tech.

Management of Risk

  • The role holder is responsible for the identification of Compliance related models as classified by the Group Model Risk standards and ensuring that these are developed and managed in accordance with these standards.
  • The role holder should also implement and oversee appropriate controls and governance to any analytical products or services that are classified as non-models
  • The role holder will provide appropriate and timely management and remedial action to any risks, issues or findings related to their responsibilities.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Experience

  • University degree in technology, data analytics or related discipline or relevant work experience in computer or Data Science
  • Understanding of Regulatory Compliance, risks and direct experience of deployment of controls and analytics to manage those risks.
  • Experience in Financial Services (experience within a tier one bank) or related industry
  • Knowledge of the HSBC Group structure, its business and personnel, and HSBC’s corporate culture

Soft Skills

  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with proven experience working in a matrixed management structure, managing global teams.
  • Active contribution to strategy and innovation.
  • Able to work independently and solve complex business problems whilst keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Client focused, with strong relationship building and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication (both verbal and written) and presentation skills.
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking skills, ability to think laterally.
  • Able to manage numerous tasks with continual re positioning and prioritization.
  • The role requires the role holder to apply the. Those of the above skills which the role holder does not currently bring to the role, will need to be developed.

Technical Knowledge

  • Fair understanding of applied mathematics, statistics, data science principles and advanced computing (machine learning, modelling, NLP and Generative AI)
  • Moderate experience working within the Hadoop ecosystem in addition to strong technical skills in analytical languages such as Python and SQL. Specific knowledge of GCP, AWS, Azure, Spark and/or graph theory an advantage.
  • Medium level understanding of data & architecture concepts including cloud, ETL, Ontology, Data Modelling.
