Risk and Compliance is a Second Line of Defense (LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group’s businesses (also referred to as “the First LOD”) to ensure that they effectively manage as “Risk Owners” the risks inherent in or arising from the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible. The Second LOD consists of 'Risk Stewards' who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the First LOD. The Risk and Compliance function is a Risk Steward for a number of financial and non-financial risks in accordance with HSBC Group’s risk framework.

 

The Opportunity:

The role will require collaborative work in a dynamic environment. It calls for the ability to prioritize multiple conflicting demands on time and resources. The jobholder must be able to influence senior management and articulate clear justifications for business management initiatives and to get it done.

 

What you’ll do:

Snr Business Manager, Risk and Compliance ASP is responsible to work closely with ASP Risk and Compliance Business Performance team to drive and deliver Global & Regional functional Chief of Staff initiatives, covering the following but not limited to: 

  • Cost management & budget forecasting – provide timely insight to our stakeholders to drive management actions
  • Resource management – manage and tracking the organisational design, e.g. resource tracking & analysis, hiring process, Span of Control, Layers & Dual Reporting, etc
  • Governance and reporting – ensure effective governance structure, processes and reporting are in place to enable oversight, control and monitoring of strategy execution and implementation as appropriate.
  • Business management related initiatives – support and deliver initiatives including but not limited to communications, event management, training & development to enable the smooth delivery of Risk & Compliance strategic priorities and people agenda.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • University graduate preferably with a degree in Business Management, Accounting or Finance.
  • Project Management and strong relationship management with a focus on financial and budget requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both Risk and Compliance and Business Senior Management.
  • Ability to build relationship by communicating, influencing and negotiating effectively within Risk and Compliance, finance, human resources counterparts.
  • Willingness to own work and problems and see through to completion and to use own initiative to resolve issues.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and proven ability to demonstrate leadership behaviors
  • Ability to manage and mitigate operational risk effectively.
  • Experience of managing within a complex matrix environment.
  • Understanding of the HSBC Group and its strategy, structures and processes.
  • Knowledge of the external environment - regulatory, political, competitor and market.
  • Experience & enjoyment in planning and leading large scale communication and significant events / projects.
  • Experience in working in a regional office and navigating through a matrix organizational structure.
  • Equipped with financial and accounting acumen and the ability to budget, track and control expenditures.
  • Ability to communicate, influence and negotiate effectively with senior stakeholders and across the Bank in-country, Regional and Group. 
  • Ability to articulate complex and sensitive information and situations in meaningful and concise ways. 
  • Ability to prioritize conflicting demands and problem solve.  
  • Experience in driving changes with flexibility in approach to deliver on requirements that may be evolving, and having an agile mindset to leading change at country and regional levels.
